WHAT IT MEANS TO BE INITIATED INTO THE SECRET OF THE MYSTERY, PART 1. PHI 4:12; ROM 16:25-26

Robert McLaughlin Bible Ministries

What it means to be initiated into the secret of the mystery. Part 1.

Wednesday, January 5, 2005

“I have learned the secret” - perf-pass-ind - mueo = to be initiated into a secret, it does not just mean to be instructed, but to learn a secret - the secret to life.

Mueo - the fraternities of the ancient world had certain rules and regulations and mysteries.

Musterion, in the New Testament, means a system of doctrine to which you are to be initiated into if you are going to advance in the spiritual life.

The verb means to be initiated by understanding something, in this case doctrine.

The Royal Family of God is to live as aristocracy in the midst of the devil’s world.

Perfect tense - mueo = a consummative perfect tense emphasizing the process which has been completed.

Passive voice - once reversionistic, but now in supergrace, the apostle Paul has received initiation into the mysteries.

Indicative mood - declarative for the historical fact, that Paul’s Jerusalem reversionism is over. He has been initiated into the secrets of reversionistic discipline, he has been initiated into the blessing of reversion recovery.

In fact, I have come to know, [I have come to experience] how to be degraded [reversionism], also I have come to know or experience what it is to live in the prosperity of supergrace. In any place and in all circumstances I have been initiated into the mystery.

The Church-age and its doctrine were never mentioned in Old Testament prophecy, but instead it was fully developed in the New Testament epistles, ROM 16:25-26, COL 1:25-26, EPH 3:3-6 - this mystery is now revealed.

Mystery - musterion = that which is hidden, a secret or a mystery.

It is this body of doctrine known as mystery doctrine which sets the Church-age apart from other dispensations.

The mystery doctrine of the Church unveils the characteristics unique to the Christian way of life.

Mystery doctrine tells the believer what he must do now that he is a Christian.

1. The false system of spirituality by personality.
PRO 21:29 A wicked man hardeneth his face:

PRO 6:16 Here are six things GOD hates, and one more that he loathes with a passion:
(PRO 6:17) eyes that are arrogant,

MAT 7:15 “Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves.”
ROM 16:18 For such men are slaves, not of our Lord Christ but of their own emotions; and by their smooth and flattering speech they deceive the hearts of the unsuspecting.

2. The false system of spirituality by content of speech.
3. Spirituality through mannerisms.
4. Spirituality by yielding.

ROM 6:13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.

5. Spirituality through self-crucifixion.

They misinterpret ROM 6:1-3.
Rather than relying on the ministry of God the Holy Spirit to do the changing they set out to wipe their own slate clean - spirituality by asceticism.

Aor-pass-ind - sustauroo = “has already been crucified.”

6. Spirituality by prohibitions or traditions.

A cultural tradition or social usage of certain things cannot determine spirituality since the unbeliever can observe such traditions as well.

These include some of the following prejudices; do not smoke, drink, dance, play cards, go to movies, go swimming in the same pool with the opposite sex, wear cosmetics, etc.

Anything the unbeliever can do is not a part of the spiritual life.

No two believers attain the same degree of spiritual growth at any given time.

Impersonal love demands tolerance toward all believers in their various stages of spiritual growth.

Converts who respond to legalism become hypocrites and self-righteous.
Those who react to and reject these prohibitions often end up rejecting God’s plan for their life.

7. Spirituality by relativity.
The cosmic Christian thinks that subtle sins are justified and shocking sins must be persecuted.

JAM 2:10 For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all.

8. Spirituality by ritual.
COL 2:16-17, Therefore let no one act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day things which are a mere shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ.

9. Program spirituality.
Christian service is the result of a believer properly motivated by God the Holy Spirit and Bible doctrine.

The problem in most churches is that overt activity is substituted for the enabling power of the Holy Spirit.
Program Christianity creates an ignorance which results in frustration and permanent carnality.

10. Spirituality through emotion.
Our emotions respond to what is inside of our soul - thoughts or lack of thoughts.

Our emotions also respond to the physiological part of the body.
Emotions can function independently from thinking.

Emotion can be good and it can even respond to spiritual things but emotion has nothing to do with the spiritual life.

WHAT IT MEANS TO BE INITIATED INTO THE SECRET OF THE MYSTERY, PART 2. THE BEGINNING OF THE SECRET. PHI 4:12; COL 1:25-26; EPH 3:3-6; JOH 14-17

What it means to be initiated into the secret of the mystery. Part 2. The beginning of the secret. .

ACT 7:56 “Behold, I see the heavens opened up and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.”

The mystery doctrine of Church-age which all believers should be initiated into, and the divine assets that God has given to each Church-age believer and His directions for using those assets.

God has magnificently provided everything for us and has thoroughly instructed us so that we can -
EPH 4:1 “Walk in a manner worthy of our calling.”

There were numerous mystery cults which flourished throughout the ancient world, and although the secrets of these groups were closely guarded, everyone knew that these secretive organizations existed.

Ignorance and arrogance become the two worst enemies of the believer, and cause him to make a wrong assessment of life, and to establish wrong priorities.

Today the English word mystery denotes something incomprehensible or puzzling, but in the ancient world a mystery was well-known, although only to the initiated.

In the upper room discourse, on the night before His crucifixion, TLJC prophesied the coming of the Church-age, Joh 14-17.

JOH 14:14 - the intimate union with TLJC, “If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do {it.}”
JOH 14:16-17 - the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, “He abides with you, and will be “IN” you.”

a. The Church exists to glorify TLJC to the maximum.
EPH 1:22-23 And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fulness of Him who fills all in all.

b. Israel was to be given every opportunity to accept TLJC as Messiah.

The Jewish kingdom of God on earth had been postponed until the Millennium and a new set of options for believers on earth now became manifest.

c. Soon after prophesying about the coming church, TLJC would win the victory on the cross, and it was only fitting that the VICTOR be the one to announce the dramatic change.

His victory on the cross followed by the fulfillment of the Church-age was one of the most stunning moments in the entire angelic conflict.

d. Mystery doctrine is based upon the life of Christ.

Throughout His incarnation, our Lord utilized the system and the divine assets that God the Father made available to support His humanity.

Church-age doctrine was concealed until the Christian way of life went into effect, first through our Lord Jesus Christ.

This is the night before the Passover, or Tuesday evening, 13 April, 30 AD.

When we call it the upper room discourse, only Joh 13-14 was given in the upper room.

Then they are going to sing a hymn and go out, and then we will have Joh 15-17, which takes place in the Garden of Gethsemane.

Joh 17 is the prayer that the Lord Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane.

“Jesus knowing” = the humanity of Christ knowing.

Doctrine orients you to the circumstances of life, the situations that exist in life.

His hour = the cross and really His hour of victory in the angelic conflict, JOH 12:23; JOH 17:1,
MAR 14:41.

Depart - metabaino = to go from one place to another.

1. His body went into the grave, LUK 23:53.
2. His soul went to paradise, LUK 23:43.
3. His spirit went into the presence of the Father, LUK 23:46.

“Out of this world” = the departure of Christ includes His resurrection and ascension.

Once Jesus departs from the world, the angelic conflict is going to intensify.
These disciples who are left behind are going to become Satanic targets.

“Out of the world” - prepositional phrase “ek tou kosmou” = His body went into the grave, LUK 23:53, His soul went to Paradise in Hades,
ACT 2:27, His spirit went to the Father, LUK 23:46.

Out of the trichotomus separation of Christ at His physical death, it is the soul and the spirit which are emphasized and definitely not the body.

ISA 53:10 “Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise Him; he has put Him to grief. When You make His soul an offering for sin.”

Unto the Father = “face to face with the Father” - pros + the accusative noun patera [Father], which has to do definitely with His ascension.

“He loved them to the end” = the Lord Jesus Christ was perfect and in His impeccability, He was always stable even while under pressure.

MAT 26:67 - they would spit upon the face of the Son of God.
MAT 26:67 They beat Him with their fists; and others slapped Him,
ISA 52:14 His appearance was disfigured more than any man, And His form more than the sons of men.

ISA 50:6 He gave His back to those who would strike Him And His cheeks to those who pluck out the beard; He did not cover His face from humiliation and spitting.
MAT 26:68 “Prophesy to us, You Christ; who is the one who hit You?”

Religion and self-righteousness make people vicious, evil, cruel, corrupt, divisive, spiteful, malicious, and violent.

MAT 26:53 “Do you think that I cannot appeal to My Father, and He will at once put at My disposal more than twelve legions of angels?”

His restraint was very significant, for if He had lost His temper, there would be NO SALVATION!

MAT 26:68 “Prophesy to us, You Christ; who is the one who hit You?”
MAT 26:56 - the same ones He loved to the end, His disciples, left Him and fled from Him.

“He loved” - aor-act-part - agapesas = His impersonal unconditional love.

“His own” - His disciples - accusative masculine plural - idios = describes His disciples.

WHAT IT MEANS TO BE INITIATED INTO THE SECRET OF THE MYSTERY, PART 3. SATANIC DISTRACTION FROM TEACHING MYSTERY DOCTRINE. JOH 13:1-3; PSA 55:12-14; JOH 21:15-17

What it means to be initiated into the secret of the mystery. Part 3. Satanic distraction from teaching mystery doctrine.

Agapesas – love = true mental attitude love is not changed by the things that our Lord knew He was about to suffer.

Pressure, adversity, tragedy, heartache, frustration, does not even put a dent on His love.

Desertion by the disciples, Peter denying him, everything that would disappoint a member of the human race, everything that could upset a member of the human race, was thrown at the Lord Jesus Christ, but it did not change His love.

PSA 55:12-14, For it is not an enemy who reproaches me, Then I could bear {it}; Nor is it one who hates me who has exalted himself against me, Then I could hide myself from him. But it is you, a man my equal, My companion and my familiar friend. We who had sweet fellowship together, Walked in the house of God in the throng.

MAT 26:39 “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as Thou will.”

Toward the disciples –
He loved them at this time when the heat was off.

MAT 26:56 “Then all the disciples left Him and fled.”

The deity of Christ loved them in eternity past, He was willing to become a member of the human race –
PHI 2:7 deprive Himself of the proper function of deity when He had received the form of a servant and was born in the likeness of men.

He loved them in time, therefore was willing to go to the cross –
PHI 2:8 In fact, although having being discovered in outward appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of spiritual death, that is the death of the cross.

He loved them on the cross, He was therefore willing to be judged for their sins –
LUK 23:34 But Jesus was saying, “Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.”

In the ancient world, this was long before the outhouse – they had chamber pots and they dumped everything in the street.

“Wash your feet” = “Come in.”

MAT 23:2 “The scribes and the Pharisees have seated themselves in the chair of Moses;”
MAT 23:6 And they love the place of honor at banquets, and the chief seats in the synagogues,

Roman style = you lie on your side, on your elbow, on your couch, and your feet are practically up on the table.

1JO 2:19 They went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, in order that it might be shown that they all are not of us.

“Having put” – perf-act-part – beblekotos = to throw or to cast.

He tries to cast doubts and questions at others to distract them from the communication of Bible doctrine.

GEN 3:1-5, Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Indeed, has God said, ‘You shall not eat from any tree of the garden’?” And the woman said to the serpent, “From the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat; but from the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat from it or touch it, lest you die.’” And the serpent said to the woman, “You surely shall not die! For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

EPH 6:16 in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming missiles of the evil one.

Perfect tense – beblekotos = Judas has received negative information from the devil concerning our Lord Jesus Christ for some time now.

ISA 59:5 They hatch cockatrice’ eggs, and weave the spider’s web: he that eateth of their eggs dieth,

Betray Him – aor-act-subj – parado = to betray; indicates the devil’s sworn purpose when he entered the room; to cause one to follow his own corrupt mind.

The devil’s objective was to help the Sanhedrin accomplish their policy to stone the Lord Jesus Christ and kill Him, JOH 11:49-57.

The devil knew that it was going to be a cross as far as the Father’s plan was concerned, because in the prophecies of Isaiah, He is said to die on wood.

A hindrance to the plan of God – here is the devil personally present to keep the plan of God from being fulfilled, to hinder the cross.

The devil’s objective was to get Jesus to die physically – not spiritually.

Satan is afraid that somehow Jesus will get on that cross where He will bear the sins of the world and die spiritually.

ROM 6:23 For the wages of sin is [spiritual] death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The day that Adam ate the fruit, that is the day Adam would die.
He lived physically over 930 years after that, GEN 5:3.

Even up until this day, Satan has accomplished this, not by stopping the Lord from dying on the cross but through blinding believers from the difference between spiritual death and physical death.
Just before mystery doctrine is about to be taught, there is some form of satanic distraction to try to divert the communication of the mystery.

“Had given” – aor-act-ind – edoken = “had given.”

Aorist tense – culminative aorist = something that was settled in eternity past as a part of the divine decrees.
Active voice – God the Father produced the action of the verb at the time of the divine decrees.
Indicative mood – the reality of the eternal life conference in eternity past billions and billions of years before any creature was created.

You think you have problems and you start screaming out to God for answers, and billions of years ago He knew your problems.

In eternity past He knew every problem you would ever have and made a provision for you, in time, way back in eternity past, for you to be able to handle your problems.

WHAT IT MEANS TO BE INITIATED INTO THE SECRET OF THE MYSTERY, PART 5. THE MYSTERY BEHIND THE WASHING OF THE DISCIPLES' FEET. JOH 13:1-8; PHI 2:5-11

What it means to be initiated into the secret of the mystery: part 4. The Mystery behind the washing of the disciples' feet.

Pres-pass-ind - egeiro = to be aroused, to rise up, to take a stand; to stand up for that which is true.

MAT 2:13 - used for arising up and fulfilling the word of God in spite of the opposition.
MAT 8:26 - used for standing up against the winds and the storms of life and bringing peace into a situation.
LUK 22:24 And there arose also a dispute among them {as to} which one of them was regarded to be greatest.
MAT 12:42 - egeiro is used for those believers with PVTD rising up with their character and integrity condemning those with NVTD by their actions.
MAT 17:23 - used for our Lord being raised from the dead.

The laying aside of the garments is analogous to our Lord laying aside His deity and becoming true humanity. To lay aside - pres-act-ind - tithemi - dramatic present tense = a dramatic moment when Christ is about to become their servant; becoming the servant of all is a picture of going to the cross.

He laid aside His garments, His mantle, His outer garments - himation = His outer garment, His robe, or His mantle - analogous to the true doctrine of kenosis.

Kenosis = during the incarnation, our Lord voluntarily restricted the independent use of His divine attributes.

The plan for the incarnation not only called for the judgment of our sins, the provision of eternal salvation for all members of the human race, but simultaneously for the strategic victory of the angelic conflict. The Lord Jesus Christ voluntarily took on Himself true humanity in order to redeem mankind from sin, in order to propitiate God the Father, and to reconcile mankind to God.

Just as Jesus at this point laid aside His outer garments to take the place of a servant, so He surrendered the independent use of His divine attributes, to fulfill the Father’s plan.

Christ became our servant at the cross, and now He is the greatest of all, seated at the right hand of the Father.

Towel - lention - levntion - like a beach towel; an article belonging to a servant in which he uses one end of the towel to wash the feet and the other end of the towel to dry and he strings it around his neck - He did not wear anything because He gets dirty in the process.

Water is analogous to the word of God, EPH 5:26, PSA 119:9.
Water = the word - 1JO 1:7, 1JO 1:9.
Nipto = to wash the hands or the feet as a ceremonial function.

He began to wash His disciples feet - pres-act-inf = He kept on doing it, going from one to the other; active voice - Jesus produces the action; the infinitive - it was His purpose to wash every disciple’s feet.

Jesus Christ becomes a servant to make servants of God out of us.

TLJC is not teaching humility as most of your commentators, who really do not know the original language, say that He is.

Our Lord is showing eleven disciples, who are all going to have the gift of communication, that in order to be a communicator you have to study and teach, study and teach.

MAT 16:22-23 - Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, “God forbid it, Lord! This shall never happen to You.” But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to Me; for you are not setting your mind on God’s interests, but man’s.”

Peter is saying in effect, “Lord you’re greater than me but I’m greater than them.”
GAL 6:12 “Those who desire to make a good showing in the flesh.”

1. The disciples had bathed before coming to the last supper - all of them had taken a bath, that was a part of the custom of the Passover meal.
2. The taking of a bath is analogous to salvation - one bath but many washings.

TIT 3:5 He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit,
1CO 11:31 But if we judge ourselves correctly, we should not be judged.

HEB 12:1-2 Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily entangles us Therefore, strengthen the hands that hang down and the knees that are feeble.

HEB 12:9 Furthermore, we had earthly fathers to discipline us, and we respected them; shall we not much rather be subject to the Father of spirits, and live?
HEB 12:13 And make straight paths for your feet, so that the limb which is lame may not be put out of joint [divine discipline], but rather be healed.

EPH 4:22 that, with reference to your former lifestyle [post-salvation sinning], you yourselves lay aside your old man, you who are becoming corrupted [apostasy and degeneracy] on the basis of the lusts of deceit [strong pressures from the sin nature in your area of weakness].

“Arise from the dead,” EPH 5:14.
This is temporal death or control of the sin nature during your Christian life.

ROM 6:13 And do not go on presenting the members of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.
ROM 12:1 I urge you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.

1JO 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

One bath - the cross. Many foot washings - the rebound technique.

3. From walking through the streets, the disciples have accumulated filth on their feet which is analogous to the believer being out of fellowship.

4. The custom of foot-washing is analogous to rebound. If you come with dirty feet, what should you do before you sit down to dine with the Lord, REV 3:20 “and dine with Him”?

5. Before you eat the Lord’s food, Bible doctrine, you wash your feet, rebound.
6. This dinner was fellowship with the Lord in which food was involved, our greatest fellowship with the Lord is when we meet to dine upon Bible doctrine.

7. The feet also represent service - it is impossible to serve the Lord with dirty feet.
8. In the last chapter, JOH 12:3, the feet of Jesus had been anointed with oil, while at the beginning of this chapter, the feet of the disciples are washed.

Jesus washed their feet - this is a picture of Christ providing rebound
1JO 1:7 but if we walk in the light as He Himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.
1JO 1:9 If we acknowledge [name and cite] our sins, He is faithful and righteous, with the result that He forgives us our sins [known sins] and purifies us from all unrighteousness [unknown sins].

9. Oil on the feet of the Savior indicates the sustaining ministry of the Holy Spirit while water on the feet of the disciples indicates the cleansing of the rebound technique.
10. TLJC will wash their feet - a picture of Christ providing the basis of rebound on the cross.

ISA 52:7 quoted in ROM 10:15 How beautiful are the feet of those who communicate glad tidings of good things!
All communicators of doctrine have to keep their feet clean or be cleansed to communicate.

Peter’s statement would be commended by many because it is a statement of sincerity, but he was sincerely wrong.

Sincerity is no substitute for a knowledge of doctrine or for perception, metabolization and application of Bible doctrine.
Sincerity can become a distraction to the Christian life and it will make a phoney out of you every time.

LUK 11:1 And it came about that while He was praying in a certain place, after He had finished, one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray just as John also taught his disciples.”

No, He said, “When you pray address the Father,” and then He taught them to pray in a specific way, LUK 11:2.

Rebound precedes the correct function of perception, metabolization and application of Bible doctrine.

WHAT IT MEANS TO BE INITIATED INTO THE SECRET OF THE MYSTERY, PART 6. BEWARE OF SINCERITY, EMOTIONALISM, AND THE CRITICAL SPIRIT. JOH 13:1-9; JOH 6:63-71

Robert McLaughlin Bible Ministries

What it means to be initiated into the secret of the mystery. Part 6. Beware of sincerity, emotionalism and the critical spirit.

Thursday, January 13, 2005

Like many sincere people, Peter was ignorant and wrong.

JOS 24:14 “Now, therefore, fear the Lord and serve Him in sincerity and truth; and put away the gods which your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord.”

There is no virtue in sincerity, Bible doctrine produces something far far greater than the hypocrisy of sincerity.

“Part” - meros = fortune, share, destiny, partnership, or business.

Before the Lord can make the first prophecy concerning the Church-age, He must teach the disciples to rebound from the filth of competing and comparing so that they can recover and learn doctrine.

Because Peter has no doctrine resident in his soul to associate with this, then this ritual of foot-washing is meaningless without the doctrine.

The ritual - foot washing = the doctrine is rebound, and the trouble with Peter is he does not understand rebound.

MAT 16:6 “Watch out and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”
MAR 8:15 “Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.”
LUK 12:1 “Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.”

1CO 5:6 Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump {of dough}?
GAL 5:9 A little leaven leavens the whole lump {of dough.}
MAR 4:24 “Take care what you listen to.”
LUK 8:18 “Take care how you listen;”

“You shall understand” - future tense - ginosko = Peter will learn doctrine including the rebound technique.
Middle voice - ginosko = Peter will be benefited by learning the rebound technique, benefited almost immediately, within a few days.
Indicative mood = reality of Peter’s future understanding of the rebound technique.

First, Peter is shocked, then he is ignorant; Jesus says, “What I do you do not realize now, but you shall understand hereafter.”

Secondly, Peter gets emotional -
JOH 13:8 “Never shall You wash my feet!”

Then he gets carried away with the wrong application -
JOH 13:9 “Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.”

First of all, you’re shocked, then stupidity sets in, then emotion.

If you are legalistic, practically everything shocks you, especially when you do not have all the facts.

As soon as you’re shocked, You stop thinking doctrinally.

When you stop thinking doctrinally, you become emotional, and the worst monster in the world is a self-righteous legalistic emotional person.

If you do not know doctrine, you are shocked about everything.
If you are shocked about everything, you are stupid about everything, and if you are stupid about everything, you are emotional about everything.

2TH 3:14 And if anyone does not obey our doctrine in this letter, take special note of that man and do not associate with him, so that he may be put to shame.

JAM 1:8 being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
JAM 4:8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

“Not my feet Lord” = pride, and the front for this pride is always humility.

The false humility -
“I’ll be your servant Lord, don’t you be mine.”

MAT 23:11 But the greatest among you shall be your servant.

He takes a correct doctrine and makes the wrong application.

PSA 7:14-16 Behold, he travails with wickedness, And he conceives mischief, and brings forth falsehood. He has dug a pit and hollowed it out, And has fallen into the hole which he made. His mischief will return upon his own head, And his violence will descend upon his own pate, the top of his head.

Ignorance of doctrine results in disorientation to the grace of God.

Peter is in a state of shocked self-righteous legalism.

Sincerity is no substitute for the knowledge of God.

Peter says “ou [not] me [not] nipses tous podas mou” = “no not the feet of mine,” or “You shall never, not ever, wash my feet.”

ONLY the Lord can wash his feet.

When you are out of fellowship the only thing the believer can produce is human good.

JOH 13:8 “If I do not wash [aor-act-subj] you, you have no part with Me.”

Verse 10 - TLJC uses foot-washing to make a distinction between regeneration and rebound.

When the Lord said to him, “He who has bathed needs only to wash his feet,” He changes from nipto to louo = to take a bath.

“Has bathed” - perf-pass-part - leloumenos = to be washed all over or to take a bath.

One bath but many foot-washings, or saved once, rebound many times.

“Wash his feet” - aor-mid-inf - nipsasthai = to wash or to cleanse.
“Only” = there is no fellowship when the believer is defiled by sin.

There’s too much sincerity.
There’s too much human viewpoint.
There’s too much human personality and dynamics.
Even too much enthusiasm.

PHI 3:6 as to zeal, a persecutor of the church;

“You are clean” -
pres-act-ind - este - e*ste = you keep on being clean - that is eternal salvation.

He is an unbeliever - Judas came without a bath.

“Knew” - pluperfect-act-ind - edei - h!/dei = Jesus always knew that Judas Iscariot would always remain an unbeliever.
Pluperfect tense - perfect indicative of past time = represents an action as complete and the results of the action in existence at some point in time in the past.

PSA 41:9 “Even My close friend, in whom I trusted, who ate My bread, has lifted up his heel against Me.”
- fulfilled in JOH 13:18, LUK 22:47-48.

LUK 22:47-48 While He was still speaking, behold, a multitude {came,} and the one called Judas, one of the twelve, was preceding them; and he approached Jesus to kiss Him. But Jesus said to him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?”

The fact that our Lord would be sold out for money is recorded in the Old Testament, Amos 2:6,
ZEC 11:12, and our Lord knew these prophecies in His humanity.

ZEC 11:12 So they weighed out thirty shekels of silver as my wages.

What it means to be initiated into the secret of the mystery, Part 7. Our Lord begins to illustrate the mystery.

Completely clean = once saved always saved, you are completely clean in the eyes of God.

“You are clean” - pres-act-ind - eimi = you keep on being clean - that is eternal salvation.

The only issue for the unbeliever is that portion of doctrine called the Gospel, made up of Christology and Soteriology - that is the only part that is applicable.

Jesus Christ stripped off His clothes to do this washing and that is a reference to Him being stripped at the cross -
MAT 27:28 And they stripped Him.

“When He had washed their feet” = the cross where the Lord Jesus Christ “washed us from our sins.”

REV 1:5 Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,

TIT 3:5 “He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit”

The taking of the garments refers to His resurrection from the dead.

“Reclining at the table” = our Lord’s session, being seated at the right hand of God the Father, after His work was finished -
the doctrine of the session.

With TLJC seated at the right hand of God the Father, God the Father is now able to do something that He has not been able to do in all of human history.

These doctrines are now available to us because He was seated at the right hand of the Father or - after He reclined at the table.

In foot-washing, He is actually depicting Himself in resurrection, in ascension, and session, and only after that, when Christ is glorified, does God the Father provide from Heaven the mystery doctrines pertaining to the Church-age.

Historically, the Church-age began ten days after Jesus Christ was seated at the right hand of the Father.

A dispensation, or period of time in human history, where every believer is their own priest.

For the first time, every believer is indwelt by the Holy Spirit.

Now the doctrine that is to be taught in the Church-age demands something greater in learning it than whatever existed before.

To understand the advanced doctrine of the Church-age and for the total principle of inculcation by grace it becomes necessary to have God the Holy Spirit resident in every believer-priest.

Message Bible -
JOH 13:27 “Do it and get it over with.”

REV 22:14 “Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter by the gates into the city.”

Things that the great prophets of the Old Testament, who made prophecies that would come to pass, would have loved to have studied and taught.

Only the beginning and the end were prophesied but not the Church-age itself, because the Church-age was a mystery.

The only prophecy fulfilled in the pre-canon Church-age dealt not with the Church but with Israel; that took place in 70 AD when national discipline hit Israel and they were completely wiped away as a nation under God.

The doctrines of Christ as Savior, Christology, and His saving work, Soteriology, were prophetic during the age of the Gentiles, from Adam to Abraham, and the age of Israel.
They were fulfilled during the dispensation of the Hypostatic Union.

We also look forward to those prophecies surrounding His Second Coming, His Millennial reign on earth, and His eternal glorification.

The dispensation of the Hypostatic Union fulfilled many Old Testament prophecies and the two coming dispensations, the Tribulation and the Millennium, are described in both the Old and the New Testaments.

The Church-age itself is a period of prophetic silence. No events of this dispensation are found in prophecy, except for its termination which is the Rapture.

World events and world conditions may seem to parallel biblical descriptions of the Tribulation, but this does not indicate that the Rapture is near.

MAT 24:36 But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone.

Throughout the Church-age, the Church is to expect one prophecy to be fulfilled - the Rapture of the Church,JAM 5:8, REV 22:7,12, 22:20.

God’s yet unfulfilled prophecies concerning Israel still belong to Israel.

Rather than fix our attention on particular prophesied events, God directs us to concentrate on the tremendous doctrines of the mystery or “mystery-doctrine.”

The testimony of TLJC during this dispensation is manifested not through prophecy, as in other dispensations when He proved Himself over and over again, but through the Church-age believer.

The Church is the body of Christ.
The Church is in union with Christ.
The Church has access to the same divine assets which sustained the humanity of Christ.
The Church possesses the completed canon of Scripture, given to sustain spiritual growth which glorifies Christ.
The Church is meant to be inculcated with the mind of Christ.

God excluded prophetic events from the post canon Church-age to emphasize the dynamics of Bible doctrine in the Church-age.

1. When one acknowledges that the Church Age is a mystery dispensation, absent from O.T. prophecy, he recognizes that God’s yet-unfulfilled prophecies and promises concerning Israel still belong to Israel.
2. In the meantime, the fulfillment of divine prophecy will not be seen again until the Church departs and the Tribulation begins.

3. Jesus Christ controls history, but rather than fixing our attention on particular prophesied events, He directs us to concentrate on the tremendous doctrines of the mystery.
4. God excluded prophetic events from the post-canon Church-age to emphasize the dynamics of Bible doctrine in the soul.
5. Believers should learn the whole realm of Bible doctrine rather than specialize in prophecy

What it means to be initiated into the secret of the mystery. Part 8. The mystery behind the reclining at the table.

Sunday, January 16, 2005

Peter is saying - “Lord you’re greater than me so you shouldn’t wash my feet, because I’m greater than them, and I didn’t wash their feet.”

GAL 6:3 For if anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself.
1CO 3:18 Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you thinks that he is wise in this age, let him become foolish that he may become wise.
1CO 10:12 Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.

Peter’s statement would be commended by many because it is a statement of sincerity, but he was sincerely wrong.

MAT 16:22-23 Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, “God forbid it, Lord! This shall never happen to You.” But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to Me; for you are not setting your mind on God’s interests, but man’s.”

JAM 1:8 being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

One bath - the cross,
many foot washings - the rebound technique.
Completely clean = once saved always saved; you are completely clean in the eyes of God.

TLJC knew that Judas Iscariot would remain an unbeliever billions and billions and billions of years ago in His deity.

He also knew it in His humanity because He knew the scriptures and He knew doctrine.

Old Testament prophecy of the betrayal of Judas Iscariot -
PSA 41:9 Even My close friend, in whom I trusted, who ate My bread, has lifted up his heel against Me.”
- fulfilled in JOH 13:18, LUK 22:47-48.

Our Lord knew that He would be sold out for money, Amos 2:6,
Our Lord knew these prophecies in His humanity.
ZEC 11:12 So they weighed out thirty shekels of silver as my wages.

Jesus Christ had stripped off His clothes to do this washing which is not only a reference to Him being stripped at the cross,
MAT 27:28.

“When He had washed their feet” = the cross where the Lord Jesus Christ “washed us from our sins” -
REV 1:5 Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,

The taking of the garments refers to His resurrection from the dead.

“Reclining at the table” = our Lord’s session being seated at the right hand of God the Father after His work was finished - the doctrine of the session.

Certain doctrines that had been held in secret from the beginning of the human race, the doctrine of the Church-age or the mystery doctrines.

These things are now available to us after He was seated at the right hand of the Father or - after He reclined at the table.

In foot-washing, He is depicting Himself in resurrection, in ascension, and session, and only after that, when Christ is glorified, does God the Father provide from Heaven the mystery doctrines pertaining to the Church-age.

Reclining at the table at the last supper after He had washed the disciples’ feet symbolized the fact that our Lord would be seated at the right hand of God the Father after He had washed us from our sins.

The doctrine of the session = that doctrine of Christology pertaining to the glorification of our Lord’s humanity at the right hand of the Father.

PSA 110:1 The Lord says to my Lord: “Sit at My right hand, Until I make Thine enemies a footstool for Thy feet.”

ACT 2:34-35 For it was not David who ascended into heaven, but he himself says: “The Lord said to my Lord, ‘Sit at My right hand, Until I make Thine enemies a footstool for Thy feet.’”

Deity does not sit.
Deity is imminent and transcendent.
Deity is omnipresent so deity does not sit down.
This was addressed to the humanity of our Lord Jesus Christ.

MAT 26:64 - TLJC reveals that He is the Son of God by stating that the son of man will be sitting at the right hand of power. In this passage, the session relates to His power and authority.

REV 4:2 - TLJC is sitting on the throne as evidence of His kingship -
REV 4:2 Immediately I was in the Spirit; and behold, a throne was standing in heaven, and One sitting on the throne.

COL 2:14-15 having cancelled out the certificate of debt which was against us by means of the decrees, and which [certificate of debt] was hostile to us and He [by means of the decrees] has taken it out of the way having nailed it to the cross. When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him.

PSA 110:1 - the prophecy is given concerning the Messiah sitting at the right hand of God the Father, therefore it is a prophecy concerning the Messiah fulfilled by TLJC.

PSA 110:1 (A Psalm of David.) The Lord says to my Lord: “Sit at My right hand, Until I make Thine enemies a footstool for Thy feet.”

MAT 22:44 the session is used to reveal to the Pharisees that the Messiah had to become a member of the human race.

In Peter’s first message at Pentecost he cites the session as proof that TLJC ascended into heaven -
ACT 2:34 “For it was not David who ascended into heaven, but he himself says: The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at My right hand,”

HEB 1:13 But to which of the angels has He ever said, “Sit at My right hand, Until I make Thine enemies A footstool for Thy feet”?

Concerning the victory and the rewards of TLJC, the session or TLJC being seated at the right hand of God is mentioned in
REV 3:21 He who overcomes, I will grant to him to sit down with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.

Concerning the power of God and the beginning of the Church-age, the session is mentioned in EPH 1:20 which He brought about in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead, and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places,

Concerning our position in Christ the session is mentioned in - EPH 2:6 and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places, in Christ Jesus,

Concerning the intercessory ministry of TLJC -
ROM 8:34 who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us.

It is mentioned concerning His power to save and forgive sin -
ACT 5:31 “He is the one whom God exalted to His right hand as a Prince and a Savior, to grant repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.”

It is mentioned concerning the hypostatic union -
HEB 1:3 And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high;

It is mentioned in relationship to His priesthood -
HEB 8:1 Now the main point in what has been said is this: we have such a high priest, who has taken His seat at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens,

It is mentioned concerning the efficacy of His work on the cross -
HEB 10:12 but He, having offered one sacrifice for sins for all time, sat down at the right hand of God,

It is mentioned as a means of occupation with Christ -
HEB 12:2 Be concentrating on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

It is mentioned concerning His victory in the angelic conflict when He came back from Hades -
1PE 3:22 who is at the right hand of God, having gone into heaven, after angels and authorities and powers had been subjected to Him.

In all these passages, the doctrine of the session or TLJC being seated at the right hand of God points to His deity.
It also points to His power and authority - that through union with Christ and mystery doctrine we now share in.

It also points to His kingship, His fulfillment of Messianic prophecies, His ascension into heaven, His victory in the angelic conflict, His eternal rewards, and the power made available to every Church-age believer.
Reclining at the table at the last Passover after He had washed the disciples’ feet also points to our position and security in Christ.

His intercessory ministry, His power to save and forgive sin,
His hypostatic union, His priesthood, the efficacy of His work on the cross, occupation with TLJC, His trip to Hades.

“I am” - pres-act-ind - eimi = He keeps on being their Lord and teacher.
“Ought” - pres-act-ind - opheilete - o*feivlete = a verb of obligation.
"One another’s feet” = the believers of the first generation of the Church-age.

PSA 119:9 How can a young man cleanse his way pure? By keeping it according to Thy word.

EPH 5:25-26 Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her; that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word.

No pastor can communicate from an empty bucket.

WHAT IT MEANS TO BE INITIATED INTO THE SECRET OF THE MYSTERY, PART 9. THE MYSTERY OF THE TEACHER AND THE DISCIPLES. JOH 13:11-16

Robert McLaughlin Bible Ministries

What it means to be initiated into the secret of the mystery. Part 9. The mystery of the teacher and the disciples.

Thursday, January 27, 2005

“Ought” – pres-act-ind – opheilete – o*feivlete = a verb of obligation.

Nominative singular noun “Kurios” – kuvrio” – “Lord” = TLJC has authority over them.

Nominative singular noun “didaskalos” – didavskalo” = “Teacher.”

“If I am your Lord and Teacher and I wash your feet through teaching, you are obligated under My authority to teach others as I have taught you!”

“One another’s feet” = the believers of the first generation of the Church-age.

JJOH 15:3 “You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.”

EPH 5:25-26 Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her; that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word.

They are going to communicate the mystery doctrines which have been held back and hidden since time began, but now revealed because Christ has put on His clothes and is seated at the table – or Christ is resurrected and seated at the right hand of the Father – now a whole realm of doctrine opens up.

“Gave” – aor-act-ind – edoka – e!dwka = a gift of grace.

Example – accusative singular noun – hupodeigma = an example, a model or a pattern to follow.

The heritage of grace is perpetuated through the communication of Bible doctrine.

The significance of foot-washing is not in the literal ceremony or ritual but in the doctrinal analogy – the filling of the Spirit and the function of perception and metabolization of Bible doctrine.

“Do” – pres-act-subj – poiete – poih'te = to practice habitually.

Slave – nominative singular masculine – doulos – dou'lo” = the disciple or the student from the standpoint of his discipleship; he’s a slave
Master – genitive singular masculine noun – kuriou – kurivou = connotes deity and indicates the greatest possible contrast between the disciple and TLJC.

If the Lord is actually teaching them, He calls them disciples.
If they are out of school, they are still not out from under His discipline and therefore they are called slaves.

Teacher or didaskalos is our Lord’s authority over us when we are called disciples.
Lord is Kurios or His authority over the disciples when they are called slaves.

One of the principles that comes out of foot-washing is that authority is always authority.

Speaking from His humanity only, TLJC is saying that the Father is greater than the Son.

GEN 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
COL 1:16 For by Him [Jesus Christ] all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities – all things have been created by Him and for Him.

JOH 1:1-3 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He [the Word]was in the beginning with God. All things came into being by Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.

JOH 5:18 – the Lord “made Himself equal with God.”

Sometimes our Lord spoke from His deity, other times from His humanity, and then other times from His Hypostatic Union.

From His deity –
JOH 8:58 “Truly, truly, I say to you: before Abraham came into being, I existed eternally.”

From His humanity our Lord said from the cross – JOH 19:28 “I thirst.”

MAT 27:46 About the ninth hour [3 p.m.], Jesus shouted with a loud voice, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me [when the humanity of Christ was being judged for our sins on the cross]?”

From His person in Hypostatic Union –
MAT 11:28 “Come unto Me all you that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. He that comes unto Me I will not cast out.”

JOH 14:6 “I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man comes unto the Father but by Me.”

MIC 5:3 But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, {Too} little to be among the clans of Judah, From you One will go forth for Me to be ruler in Israel. His goings forth are from long ago, From the days of eternity.”

TIT 2:13 looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus;

1JO 5:20 And we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us understanding, in order that we might know Him who is true, and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This One is the true God and eternal life.

ACT 20:28 Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.

ROM 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved;
LUK 4:8 And Jesus answered and said to him, “It is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God and serve Him only.’”

JOH 20:28 Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!”

The sacred Tetragrammaton = the sacred name for God.
JHWH [minus the vowels JeHoWaH] = Jehovah or YHWH [minus the vowels YaHWaH] = Yahweh.

Jesus Christ is called Jehovah, ISA 9:6-7, ISA 40:3, JER 23:5-6, ZEC 12:8-10.

ISA 40:3 A voice is calling [the voice of John the Baptist], “Clear the way for the Lord [Jesus Christ] in the wilderness; Make smooth in the desert a highway for our God.”

JER 23:5 “Behold, the days are coming,” declares the Lord, “When I shall raise up for David a righteous Branch; And He will reign as king and act wisely And do justice and righteousness in the land.”
JER 23:6 In His days Judah will be saved, And Israel will dwell securely; And this is His name by which He will be called, “The Lord our righteousness.”

The deity of the Father and even the Spirit are universally accepted but the deity of the Son is constantly being questioned and challenged.

COL 1:15 And He is the EXACT image of the invisible God.
HEB 1:3 And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power.
ZEC 12:10 – It is Jehovah who has pierced hands.
PSA 22:16 “they pierced our Lord’s hands and feet”

MAL 3:1 Behold, I am going to send My messenger, and he will clear the way before Me. And the Lord, whom you seek, will suddenly come to His temple;

MAT 21:12-13 And Jesus entered the temple and cast out all those who were buying and selling in the temple, and overturned the tables of the moneychangers and the seats of those who were selling doves. And He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer’; but you are making it a robbers’ den.”

MAT 12:8 “For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.”
ISA 41:4 Who has performed and accomplished it, Calling forth the generations from the beginning? “I, the Lord, am the first, and with the last. I am He.”

ISA 43:25; ISA 44:22 – only Jehovah can forgive sin.
ISA 43:25 “I, even I, am the one who wipes out your transgressions for My own sake; And I will not remember your sins.”
ISA 44:22 “I have wiped out your transgressions like a thick cloud, And your sins like a heavy mist. Return to Me, for I have redeemed you.”

MAR 2:7 “Why does this man speak that way? He is blaspheming; who can forgive sins but God alone?”

If He wanted to reveal His equality with God, He would say –
JOH 10:30 “I and the Father are one.”

What it means to be initiated into the secret of the mystery, Part 10. The mystery of divine happiness within the believer.

Occasionally spiritual service is accomplished in a very humble way but it does not rob the one who has the authority from God of His authority.
No matter how humiliating, no matter how degrading it may be, service as rendered by our Lord, indicated His relaxed mental attitude and His wonderful sense of humor.

1. You lose your common sense.
2. You lose your sense of humor.
3. You lose your balance of resident doctrine in the soul so that you become psychopathic, neurotic, or psychotic.
4. You lose your discernment.

a. Self-justification
b. Self-deception
c. Self-absorption

“Know” - perf-act-ind - oidate - oi!date = doctrine in the frame of reference, the memory center, the entire stream of consciousness.

Nominative masculine plural noun - makaroi - makavrioi = to be happy; in the plural = “happinesses.”

Happiness is related to knowing doctrine not having your dreams and goals fulfilled.

We must never confuse happiness, as taught in the Word of God, with the various stimuli of life which are enjoyable for the moment, but have no ability to sustain us in day-by-day living.

It is only in the body to the extent that the soul is in the body, for happiness is related to the soul and spirit, to the immaterial parts of man, and is not related to the body at all.

Satan’s propaganda is that money, success, pleasure, social life, sexual life, public approbation, fame, material things, travel, health, and pleasant circumstances in life can make you happy.

By way of contrast, what God has provided for us with His happiness is a permanent factor and a problem-solving device.

Anything that is worthwhile is worthwhile in adversity as well as in prosperity.

To the extent that you are dependent on people, circumstances, prosperity, success, or any accouterments of life for happiness, you are weak.

It is not dependent on environment, associations, or circumstances of prosperity or adversity; it depends on none of these things.

Having divine happiness is very simple because all that it requires is dedication and devotion to the intake of Bible doctrine.

LUK 11:28 “Happy are those who hear the word of God, and observe it.”

God’s happiness and the relationship with doctrine -
1JO 1:4 “In fact, we write these things that our happiness [+H] might be completed.”

The relationship between our Lord’s happiness and the Church-age believer’s happiness will also be given by our Lord in JOH 15:11.

Spiritual self-esteem is only the beginning of divine happiness.

By advancing through providential preventative suffering to spiritual autonomy, divine happiness becomes stronger.

By advancing through momentum testing to spiritual maturity, divine happiness reaches its peak.

If and when you pass evidence testing, then you have the +H that will exist forever and ever; in living, in dying, and in the eternal state forever.

PRO 3:13 “Happiness belongs to the person who finds wisdom, even to the person who gains understanding.”

PSA 31:7 “I will rejoice and be happy in the provision of Your grace.”

Happiness is a form of energy.
This is energy beyond human imagination or understanding.

God in His omniscience found a way to design a plan to make us happy.

In eternity past, God made the sovereign decision to share His happiness with the new spiritual species, the Church-age believer as Royal Family of God.

Neither the failure of angels nor members of the human race has ever given God even a second of unhappiness.

“Do” - pres-act-subj - poiete - poih'te = to keep on doing the same things.

“If you understand what’s important in life you will be happy and you will never be humiliated from doing anything in life, including what I’ve just done to you.”

Eat - pres-act-part - trogon - trwvgwn = the traitor is crunching his food; to crunch food, or to munch on food.

Trogon = “to gnaw,” “to bite.”

“Has lifted up” - aor-act-ind - eperen - e*ph'ren = to reject the authority of the Lord Jesus Christ.

The raising up of the heel means to overthrow or to seek one’s destruction, or to reject authority.

Judas has pretended to love the Lord but ignorance of doctrine and a desire for approbation means that it has always been pseudo-love.

MAR 12:30 “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.”

If a believer really loves God, it will be manifested by his desire to hear God’s doctrines, JOH 8:47.

Hearing doctrine is not enough, not only will you hear doctrine but “if you love the Lord,” you will keep His doctrines, JOH 14:15.

“Keep” - aor-act-imp - tereo = to guard something that belongs to you as precious; to watch over carefully, to keep, to hold, to preserve and to pay attention to; to retain.

AMO 8:11-12 “Behold, days are coming,” declares the Lord God, “When I will send a famine on the land, Not a famine for bread or a thirst for water, But rather for hearing the words of the Lord. And people will stagger from sea to sea, And from the north even to the east; They will go to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, But they will not find it.”

If you guard or keep God’s Word in you, God’s love will be in you, JOH 15:10.

Keeping with doctrine is the only way to love with God’s love -
1JO 2:5 “But whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him.”

This loving for God is revealed by your impersonal love toward one another, 1JO 4:7.

1JO 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.

Receives - pres-act-part - lambano = to receive, to take hold of, to grasp, to seize, and it sets up the authority for Bible teachers.

Whomever - indefinite pronoun “tina” = anyone, or a certain one, or someone; those whom the Lord sends to represent Him on earth through the communication of doctrine.

In the first generation, He sent apostles and prophets and pastor-teachers.

TLJC is represented today by the prepared pastor-teacher and when a congregation receives the authority of their right pastor-teacher, they are receiving the authority of Jesus Christ.

When a congregation receives their right pastor-teacher they receive TLJC who sent Him and God the Father who gave all authority to the Son.

“Eat” - trogon = the traitor is crunching his food; to crunch food, or to munch on food, to gnaw, or to bite and devour.

“Has lifted up his heel against me” = to try to overthrow or discredit one’s authority, to seek one’s destruction, or to reject their authority.

Judas has pretended to love the Lord but his desire for approbation and recognition is about to be brought to the surface.

TLJC is represented today by prepared pastor-teachers and when a congregation receives the authority of their right pastor-teacher, they are receiving the authority of the apostles given to them by TLJC given to Him by God the Father.

1SA 24:6 “Far be it from me because of the Lord that I should do this thing to my lord, the Lord’s anointed, to stretch out my hand against him, since he is the Lord’s anointed.”

1SA 24:10 “I will not stretch out my hand against my ruler, for he is the Lord’s anointed.”
1SA 26:9 for who can stretch out his hand against the Lord’s anointed and be without guilt?

ROM 14:4 Who are you to judge the servant of another? To his own master he stands or falls; and stand he will, for the Lord is able to make him stand.

When a congregation receives their right pastor-teacher they receive TLJC who sent Him and God the Father who gave all authority to the Son.

JOH 12:6 he was a thief, and as he had the money box, he used to embezzle what was put into it.

REV 2:4 But I have this against you, that you have left your first love.

In the Old Testament prophecy of ZEC 11:12-13, a picture is painted of a shepherd whose care for the sheep is not appreciated.

ZEC 11:13 the Lord said “Throw it in the poor box.” This stingy wage was all they thought of me and my work! So I took the thirty silver coins and threw them into the poor box in God’s Temple.

Judas has moved beyond mere disillusion with Jesus.
His disillusionment had become infected and turned to disgust, rejection of our Lord’s authority, and rebellion.

Perhaps Judas just wanted to shake TLJC up and force Him to change His views by coming against Him with the vigilante mob.

A lot of people never think a lot of things they say and do through.

MAT 11:28 “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.”
JOH 8:11 “Neither do I condemn you; go your way.”
MAR 2:5 “My son, your sins are forgiven.”

On the tree of life a man died, but through His death came life for all who trust in Him.
On the other tree dangles the body of a man who carried his heavy load himself, and found no rest.

He could see no way out of the swamp and pit he dug for himself, created by his own shallow, foolish pride.

In his sin, he realized his wrong.
He admitted it openly.
He tried to put it behind him.

He tried to sort it all out himself.

Judas accepted the condemnation which the religious leaders offered him and rejected the grace which the Lord offered him.

The chains of guilt dragged him to his grave.

Did you ever hear someone say, “If I could just see a miracle I’d believe,” or “I have to see it to believe it”?

JOH 13:8 “Never shall You wash my feet!”

Human logic may tell us that seeing is believing, but it is the other way around, once we begin to believe in God’s power, surely we will see it.

1CO 10:11 These things happened to them as an example, and they were written for our instruction, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.

REV 3:11 “hold fast what you have, in order that no one take your crown.”
REV 2:25 “Nevertheless what you have, hold fast until I come.”
2JO 1:8 Watch yourselves, that you might not lose what we have accomplished, but that you may receive a full reward.

The Israelites, after seeing the Red Sea parted, escaping Pharaoh, end up falling into idolatry.

Look at what Judas becomes - lifeless, dead - a death with no honor.

“Seeing is not believing.
Believing is seeing.”

The only one from Judea and probably the sharpest of the twelve, and that is why he held the purse or he was the treasurer.
What you want to pay attention to is character, attitude, not intellectual ability only.

To be the “son of perdition” = Judas is a man identified with eternal destruction and whose destiny is the Lake of Fire.

2TH 2:3 Let no one in any way deceive you, for {it will not come} unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction [perdition],
REV 17:8 “The beast that you saw was and is not, and is about to come up out of the abyss and to go to destruction.”
REV 17:11 “And the beast which was and is not, is himself also an eighth, and is {one} of the seven, and he goes to destruction.”

Acts 1:25 - he went “to his own place” the place of his own choosing, Judas turned aside “to go to his own place.”

“Became troubled” - aor-pass-ind - etarachthe = to become disturbed, to become agitated, or deeply troubled.

“Troubled in spirit” = you can become disturbed, agitated and deeply troubled at something and still be filled with the Spirit.

Fut-act-ind - paradosei = to hand over, to deliver up, to betray, to deceive and to forsake.

Gesture - pres-act-ind - neuei = to gesture, to make a sign, to signal by nodding the head.

All of the time that the traitor walked with TLJC, the traitor had his privacy.
