Why Do the Wicked Prosper? | Psalm 73

Have you ever looked around and wondered why people who reject God sometimes seem to prosper while believers who are trying to do the right thing face adversity, suffering, and difficulty?

Through Psalm 73, we see Asaph wrestle with envy as he watches the prosperity of the wicked—until his perspective changes when he enters the sanctuary of God and sees everything from the viewpoint of divine truth.

The world may measure prosperity by money, possessions, success, and comfort, but the believer possesses something money cannot buy: peace, contentment, truth, fellowship with God, and the assurance of His faithful provision.

When circumstances seem unfair, don't allow what you see in someone else's life to cause you to forget what God has given you. The wicked may appear to prosper, but outward prosperity does not equal true happiness or eternal blessing.

As Asaph ultimately declares:

“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” — Psalm 73:26

No matter what we face—prosperity or adversity—God remains faithful. He will never leave us nor forsake us.
