5. EXODUS 12 - The Lamb Without Blemish.

The Cross Throughout the Scriptures - Part 5
4. Mount Moriah Points to Calvary.
Heb 11:11 By means of doctrine resident in the soul even Sarah herself received ability to conceive, even beyond the proper time of life, since she considered Him faithful who had promised;

Rom 4:18 In hope against hope he believed, in order that he might become a father of many nations, according to that which had been spoken, “So shall your descendants be.”

Rom 4:19 And without becoming weak in faith he contemplated his own body, now as good as dead since he was about a hundred years old, and the deadness of Sarah’s womb;

Rom 4:20 yet, with respect to the promise of God, he did not waver in unbelief, but grew strong in faith, giving glory to God,

Rom 4:21 and being fully assured that what He had promised, He was able also to perform.

Moriah is later called Zion; on the mountain of Moriah Solomon built the Temple, 2Ch 3:1.

Moriah = “chosen by the Lord”

Luk 23:33 And when they came to the place called The Skull, there they crucified Him and the criminals, one on the right and the other on the left.

burnt offering = olah = an offering in which the smoke goes upward.

burnt offering = propitiation, the sacrifice of TLJC, and the impeccability of the humanity of Christ being offered up to God the Father for all of our sins.

Joh 8:56 “Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was glad.”

The sacrifice on the mountain was to take place between the father and the son only!

The two slaves represent the two thieves on the cross who were not permitted to see the transaction that took place between God the Father and TLJC.

Luk 23:44-45 And it was now about the sixth hour, and darkness fell over the whole land until the ninth hour, the sun being obscured; and the veil of the temple was torn in two.

Just as the father, Abraham, laid the wood on his son, so TLJC would carry the burden of our sins.

wood = humanity, 1Co 3:12

fire = wrath and judgment, Num 11:1

knife = crucifixion of fleshly desires, Pro 23:2

Abraham has the knife and the fire because he is the father, and he has the tools needed to execute judgment of an innocent sacrifice.

The “lamb” was not only provided by God but it was for God.

Before blessing could ever flow forth to men, Divine holiness and justice must be satisfied.

Rom 3:26 - “to demonstrate His righteousness that He might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.”

It is not “God Himself will provide a lamb,” but “God will provide for Himself a lamb.”

Psa 23:3 He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.

Psa 25:11 For Thy name’s sake, O Lord, Pardon my iniquity, for it is great.

Psa 143:11 For the sake of Thy name, O Lord, revive me. In Thy righteousness bring my soul out of trouble.

Isa 43:25 “I, even I, am the one who wipes out your transgressions for My own sake; And I will not remember your sins.”

Isa 48:9 “For the sake of My name I delay My wrath, And for My praise I restrain it for you, In order not to cut you off.”

Isa 48:11 “For My own sake, for My own sake I will act; For how can My name be profaned? And My glory I will not give to another.”

Mat 27:2 and they bound Him, and led Him away, and delivered Him up to Pilate the governor.

Luk 2:7 And she gave birth to her first-born son; and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a manger,

Luk 23:53 And he took it down and wrapped it in a linen cloth, and laid Him in a tomb cut into the rock, where no one had ever lain.

The ram is a type of TLJC, who is available for the sinner as his substitute, Exo 22:5, 29:22, Lev 8:21, 9:2.

Isaac was on the altar ready to die as all of us were on our way to eternal death, but the Savior takes our place and dies in our stead.

Horns in the Bible represent power, strength, and grandeur, 2Sa 22:3, 1Ki 22:11, Luk 1:69.

“Jehovah Jireh” = “The Lord will provide.”

Later this place will be called Mount Zion.

Mount Zion, where Abraham offered Isaac, where Christ was crucified and will return, the location of the Temple = “God’s holy mountain.”

Heb 11:17 “By means of doctrine Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac; and he who had received the promises was offering up his only begotten son;”

His father was 100 years old.

His mother was beyond menopause at age 90.

Isa 53:10 “But the Lord [God the Father] was pleased To crush Him [Jesus Christ], putting Him to grief; If He would render Himself as a guilt offering.”

Rom 8:32 “He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things?”
