Doctrine of the Mosaic Law.

Point 1. Definition.

a. The Mosaic Law means God’s ordinances, statues, rules, and commandments.

b. The Mosaic Law was the divine standard that God uses to demonstrate the sinfulness of the human race as well as His principles of establishment.

Point 2. Who are the recipients of the Mosaic Law?

The Mosaic Law was given to Israel as the first client nation to God in BC 1440, EXO 19:3;
LEV 26:46; ROM 3:19; 9:4.

The Mosaic Law was never given to Gentiles, DEU 4:8; ROM 2:12-14, because Israel was the client nation.

The Mosaic Law was never given to the Church, ACT 15:5,24; ROM 6:14; GAL 2:19.

Point 3. Limitations of the Mosaic Law.

0250. Following the Mosaic Law cannot justify or adjust us to the integrity of God, ACT 13:39;
PHI 3:9.

Through Him everyone who believes [who acknowledges Jesus as his Savior] is cleared and freed from every charge from which he could not be justified and freed by the Law of Moses and given right standing with God.

PHI 3:9 and that I may be found in Him, not having my own righteousness derived from the source of the Law, but that [righteousness] which is acquired by means of faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from the source of the God at the point of faith,

GAL 2:16 knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we may be justified by faith in Christ, and not by the works of the Law; since by the works of the Law shall no flesh be justified.

We know that a man is justified or reckoned righteous and in right standing with God not by works of the Law, but only through faith and [absolute] reliance on and adherence to and trust in Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).

By keeping legal rituals and by works no human being can ever be justified (declared righteous and put in right standing with God).

PSA 143:2 And do not enter into judgment with Thy servant, For in Thy sight no man living is righteous.

JOB 4:17-18 “Can mankind be just before God? Can a man be pure before his Maker? He puts no trust even in His servants; And against His angels He charges error.”

JOB 9:2-4 So what’s new? I know all this. The question is, “How can mere mortals get right with God?” If we wanted to bring our case before him, what chance would we have? Not one in a thousand! God’s wisdom is so deep, God’s power so immense, who could take him on and come out in one piece?

ECC 7:20 Indeed, there is not a righteous man on earth who {continually} does good and who never sins.

b. The Mosaic Law cannot provide eternal salvation, GAL 3:21-26.

Its purpose was to make obvious to everyone that we are, in ourselves, out of right relationship with God, and therefore to show us the vanity of devising some religious system for getting by our own efforts what we can only get by waiting in faith for God to complete His promise.

But the Scriptures picture all mankind as sinners shut up and imprisoned by sin.

This is so that the inheritance and blessing which was promised through faith in Jesus Christ (the Messiah) might be given (released, delivered, and committed) to [all] those who believe [who adhere to and trust in and rely on Him].

c. The Mosaic Law cannot provide the filling of the Holy Spirit, necessary for the execution of the Christian way of life and-or the execution of the PPOG.

Was it from observing a law of rituals or from a message of faith?

Having begun [your new life spiritually] with the [Holy] Spirit, are you now reaching perfection [by dependence] on the flesh?

You’ll be in bondage and slavery like so many believers are today!

Does the God who lavishly provides you with His own presence, His Holy Spirit, working things in your lives you could never do for yourselves, does He do these things because of your strenuous moral striving or because you trust Him to do them in you?

Does He Who supplies you with His marvelous [Holy] Spirit and works powerfully and miraculously among you do so on the grounds of your doing what the Law demands, or because of your believing in and adhering to and trusting in and relying on the message that you heard?

d. The Mosaic law cannot solve the problems of the old sin nature and real spiritual death,
ROM 8:2-4.

The Spirit of life in Christ, like a strong wind, has magnificently cleared the air, freeing you from a fated lifetime of brutal tyranny at the hands of sin and death.

God has done what the Law could not do because its power was being weakened by the flesh [the entire nature of man without the Holy Spirit].

Sending His own Son in the appearance of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, [God] condemned sin in the flesh [subdued, overcame, deprived it of its power over all who accept that sacrifice].

God went for the most strategic attack aimed at the enemy, the jugular, as it were, when He sent His own Son.

The law, weakened as it always was by fractured human nature, could never have done that.

The law always ended up being used as a Band-Aid on sin instead of a deep healing of it.

Our lives governed not by the standards and according to the dictates of the flesh, but controlled by the Holy Spirit.

The point is that the Law cannot even provide a righteousness acceptable to God, let alone salvation, and it must remain in its proper setting as the basis for the function of a nation.

In other words, the Mosaic Law defines the problem and points to the solution, but it doesn’t provide the solution.

The equality factor of the Church-age, equal privilege and equal opportunity, did not exist under the Mosaic Law.

To be a priest under the Mosaic Law you had to be born into the tribe of Levi.

Under the PPOG we are not only priests but royal priests.

The Law never provided for the indwelling of the Trinity in the body of all believers.

The Law never provided for the filling of the Holy Spirit.

The Law never provided for the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

The Law never provided for the 100% availability of divine power.

The law never provided for a dispensation of only historical trends and no prophecy, so that every believer can have great historical impact.
