40 GIFTS @ SALVATION - INDWELLING TRINITY 1. BIBLE STUDY GROUP
Good evening, everyone. Such, a privilege and an honor for me to be here with you all to share the word of God. I am so grateful that you guys are all here, and we got a fantastic study for us today. We're talking about the invisible assets that we've been studying forty things that we receive at salvation. Forty things they are invisible assets. What is assets?
The meaning of an asset is a benefit, okay? That's what an asset is; it's a benefit for us. Okay, so and as soon as the moment we are saved, the Lord blesses us with these amazing benefits. But let's do like we always do in First John one nine, The Bible says that if we confess our sins, That the Lord is faithful and righteous to forgive us and to cleanse us of all unrighteousness. So let's take that moment. Father, we thank you so much, Lord.
That we can be here again in new day, Father, learning of you, Lord. I pray today, Father, that you open the eyes and ears of my brothers and sisters here today. Father. That you give them the wisdom, The knowledge father that they have or they need for understanding of what we're going to teach today. Father I pray father that you anoint me today, father that I can bring the word with the power that is so deserved father. I am so grateful, Father. Such a privilege for me to serve you, Lord. To be here in front of my brothers and sisters, talking sharing your word, Father such a blessing. Let everything that is said and done today, Father be for your glory. And I pray this in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen. Amen Okay So we're talking about these invisible assets that we receive.
At the moment of salvation, and we just talked about that our assets, Our benefits, okay benefits that we receive by the Lord. At the moment we are saved. Now, over this past week. God has put it in my heart and I keep going to this day after day after day. And I have to bring this and I have to share this with you.
Okay, it is so important that we understand that we have to. And it's so important, please don't take and don't take this lightly. Don't put this aside, but it is so important that we must fall in love with Christ. We have to fall in love with Him because once we fall in love with Him, and we know who He is.
And we know who we are in Him. I'll tell you guys, it's the most wonderful joy that we could ever feel. And, that's why it's so important that we cover these things in detail. : who He is, His character, His integrity, His essence or attributes. You cannot fall in love with Christ until you know this about Him. And I always use the example of husband and wife. You know, when you first meet your wife, you might be attracted to her physically, But it's over time that you get to know her that you fall in love with her. Right? And it's the same thing with our Father in Heaven. We have to know Him. We have to seek Him. We have to go searching for Him, so we can build this relationship so we can have this intimacy with Him.
And when we start understanding this, And then what He does for us because He loves us in the same way, and I am going to share that with you today. I want you to see how the Lord feels about us. And today we're going to be covering the dwelling of God the Father. We all know about God the Holy Spirit; everybody talks about that, but it's God the Father that indwells in us. God the Son, Jesus Christ, that indwells in us, and of course God the Holy Spirit that indwells in us. And today, specifically, we're going to be covering God the Father that indwells in us and what His role, because they all have three different roles and His specific role for the believer. Okay now a God has put this in my heart.
I know a lot of people, a lot of preachers, a lot of teachers. We're supposed to teach you all of God's Word, of course. But I see sometimes that people focus on certain things for some reason. In my heart, God continues throughout His Word to tell us to go out what to go out and do what To go out and bring the good news. To go out be the light right He says to go out And make disciples. That's so important that we, as we learn, that we also plant the seed for others. See, you are in here today. The seed is being planted. Okay, you might hear it again or you might hear from someone else what happens. That seed is now being watered but only God can make that seed grow.
Only the Lord can make that seed grow. Okay, now I keep talking about this love and why love is so important. Now, If you can go with me to your Bibles and let's go to First Corinthians. I want to show you this; I want you to see this, and we're going to go to chapter thirteen. First Corinthians chapter thirteen.
Now, this is Paul. Paul's teaching, and I want you to listen to what he says. All right, First Corinthians chapter thirteen. Now, prior chapter thirteen obviously is twelve, And Paul's talking about the gifts, all these amazing gifts that that the Lord gives us. Every one of them; I might have one, you might have another.
Let me let me just the varieties of gifts that people get. Some the word of knowledge according to the same spirit, some gifts of healing according to the spirit. These are some of the gifts, And then Paul goes on to say, as we're going to read that all of these gifts are wonderful. But none of these gifts without love means absolutely nothing. That love is the greatest of all, okay? That's why it's in my heart that I have to bring this to you. I have to share with you that when you fall in love with Christ, that everything just fits right in and you understand that your purpose here. What is our purpose? And once we fall in love with Him, absolutely amazing. So I am just going to read a little bit here. So just go with me.
I am going to start right at chapter thirteen, First Corinthians, chapter thirteen, and we're going to go right to verse one. And it reads: "If I speak with tongues," this is Paul speaking now. "If I speak with tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clinking or clanging symbol." Okay. He talks about love here now. If I have the gift of prophecy and know all mysteries and all knowledge.
And if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. I want you to think about what Paul's saying here. Now he's talking about watch this he's talking about knowledge. How do we gain knowledge for being in the word? Okay, he's talking about faith. God tells us that we need to have faith. Without faith it's impossible to please God. Okay now he's saying listen I can have all the faith.
The faith enough to remove mountains, but if I don't have love, it mounts or I am nothing. You see what I am trying to say? That's why it's so important that we understand the love of Christ and that we personally fall in love with Him. And this is why I spent so much time because these forty things is Him because of His love. To us is what he blesses us with these benefits, okay. And verse three says, "And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and I surrender my body to be burned, but do not have love, it profits me nothing." Love is patient. Love is kind. And is not jealous. Love does not brag and is not arrogant.
Does not act unbecomingly. It does not seek its own. It's not provoked, does not take the account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness but rejoices with the truth. Bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails. But if there are gifts of prophecy They will be done away. If there are gifts of tongues, they will cease. If there is knowledge, it will be done away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but none when the perfect comes, the partial will be done away. When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, think like a child, reason like a child.
When I became a man, I did away with the childish things. For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I will know fully, just as I also have been fully known. But now faith, hope, love abides these three; but the greatest of these is love. I want you to see, How important, And I know that's why God has me teaching because I always go back to His love for us and us falling in love with Him. So so important. Let's go to another place. Let's go to the Gospel of John. Okay, the Gospel of John, we're going to go to chapter seventeen.
I have to share this with you today before we even get into the indwelling of God. The Father, the Gospel of John chapter 17. Now, this chapter Jesus is praying to the Father right before He gets crucified. Okay, and this is His prayer, and I want you to see His love for us. What verse is that? We're going to right at verse one, seventeen one. The book of John, the Gospel of John, chapter seventeen, and we're going to start right at verse one. I am going to read this whole thing to you today. I think it's so important. I want you to see Jesus' prayer, what he says, okay, And it reads : " J esu s. Spoke these things and lifting up his eyes to heaven. He said, Father, the hour has come."
Glorify your Son, that the Son may glorify you. Even as you gave him authority over all flesh, that to all whom you have given him, Meaning I—that ' s who He's. This is Jesus speaking now—I know it's written in your Bible in red right—that You have given H im ; He's talking about H imself—he may give eternal life. This Is eternal life that they may. This eternal life that they may know you the only true God and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. Okay, this a prayer from from Jesus to the Father, And it continues in verse, four : " I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the works, which you have given me to do."
Now, Father, Glorify me together with yourself with the glory, which I had with you before the world was. Hey, hugs! I have manifested your name to the men whom you gave me. He's talking about the apostles here. Okay, I have manifested your name to the men you have gave me out of the world. They were yours, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. Now, they have come to know that everything you have given me is from you. And I am bringing you this because I want you to see the role of the Father and the Son, because we're talking about the indwelling of the Father right for the words, which You gave Me, I have given to them.
And they receive them and truly understand that I came forth from you, and they believe that you sent me. I ask on their behalf ;. I do not ask on the behalf of the world, but of those whom you have given me, for they are yours. And all things that are mine are yours, and yours are mine. And I have been glorified in them. Now, when we read that, and all things that are mine and we are His are yours, that means we belong to the Father as well. And Mine, and I have been glorified in them. When, we walk in the Spirit, and we know what that means—we ' ve talked about this.—walk by the Spirit, live by the Spirit—we understand that. Okay? Please understand what that means.
That means that we apply God's word to every situation in our life. When we apply His word to our lives, We're tapping into His system because it's not us doing it ;. We can't boast ;. It's His, so we glorify Him. That's what He's talking about here, okay? Glorifying the Father as He did. And it continues in verse eleven: "I am no longer in the world." And yet they themselves are in the world, and I come to you, Holy Father. Keep them in your name, the name which you have given me, and they may be one even as we are. Okay, now I want you to think about what this is saying—what Jesus is saying. Okay, verse twelve: While I was with them, I was keeping them in your name.
Which you have given me, and I guarded them, and not one of them perished but the son of perdition, so that the scripture would be fulfilled. He's talking about Judas Iscariot here. Okay, verse thirteen. But now I come to you, And these things I speak in the world so that they may have my joy made full of themselves. Joy made full in themselves. I have given them your words, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. Now what is he talking about there? Okay. It says here, I have given them your word, and the word has hated them because they are not of the world, even as I am.
Not of the world. Now, remember, guys. Okay, we become children of God, His children, believers. Okay, I am not talking about nonbelievers; I am talk he's speaking to believers here. Okay now he knows or he's stating here that when he's talking about the world, he's talking about the cosmic system satan's world. Okay. Remember. We have been indoctrinated over the years as children into this system that we live in today, that is not of God. And God, that's what He's saying here: because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. See, when Jesus walked the world, He walked in and the system that God provided. So He's an example for us that we also.
Do not walk in that same system that the world walks in. We are in the world, but we're not of the world. We don't belong to the world. That's right. Remember that, okay? He provided a system ;. He has instructed us to apply the system that he has given us because we are not of this world. We live in it, but we're not of it. Does that make sense? We don't belong here, right?
I do not ask you to take them out of the world, but to keep them from the evil one. He's talking about the evil system, the evil one himself and his system. The cosmic system that we have been learning about. Does everybody understand that? Right. They are not of the world, Christ saying it again, even as I am not of the world. Sanctify them in truth. Your word is truth. Sanctify them, he's saying, set them aside and put your truth in them, Father, because your word is truth. He's talking to the believers here: as you sent me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. So he's talking about sending us.
Yes, he's talking to the apostles, but as we continue to go through this, You are going to see how Jesus prays and He's talking about the believer today, not just the apostles back then. Okay. For their sakes I sanctified myself or sanctify myself that they themselves also must be sanctified in truth. Set aside the truth. I do not ask on behalf of these alone. Okay, watch this. But for those also who believe in me through their word, so whose word is this? This this the apostle John. See, he's saying through their word which Jesus taught them through Christ. He's bring his his word and he's saying not just the ones that are bring you the word, but all of them that believe in me. He's speaking directly to the believer.
Each one of us, each one individually, And do you see the beauty of the prayer that Christ is bringing to the Father for us? Okay, let's continue. That they may all be one, even as You Father are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me. Now we keep talking about the indwelling of the Father, of the Son, and the Holy Spirit. This says it over and over: "You Father are in Me, and I in You." Okay, that they may also be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me. The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one.
Just as we are one, I in them and you in me. Okay, look, I in them Christ living in us and you in me. Now if He is in Christ and Christ is in us, that means that He is also in us, right? Doesn't that make sense? Right it's it's three the Trinity. They may be perfected in unity, So that the world may know that you sent me and love them even as you have loved me. You see, you see the love over here. He's saying that he has loved for him to love them, which is us, even as you have loved me. I want you to see this: if God the Father loved His.
His son so much, and he's telling his son, Or Jesus is telling the Father that the love that He had for Him is the same love that He has for us. That's, how much love God has for us—the same love that He had for the Son, He has for us. Yeah, He lives inside of it. See how important it is? Why I say love is so strong, and I want you to really get this. To fall in love with him because he has falling in love with his children. He has given and supplied everything for his children. Verse twenty four says, "Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, be with me where I am." Okay, so that they may see my glory which you have given me, for you loved me.
Before the foundations of the world, O righteous Father, although the world has not known You yet, I have known You and these have known You who sent Me. See why it's so important. And these have known You who sent Me. See, we are God's instructing us ; He's given us specific instructions that we are to know Him and all of this. Beautiful way, his essence, his attributes. Knowing what he has done for us, I know I keep repeating myself, but I want you to hear this over and over again. It is so important that we know the love of the Father and that we personally fall in love with Him. And verse twenty-six reads, " A nd I have made your name known to them and will make it known so that the love."
With which you loved me, watch this. May be in them, and I in them. See the love that Christ had for us. He is praying for the Father this beautiful prayer before the crucifixion. Asking the Father to be with us to strengthen us to know so we know who he is, and because he absolutely knows who you are. In Christ.
Do you see what I am saying? That prayer, when I read that prayer and I saw this, and He says that He loved His Son so much, and that He loved us just as much as He loved His Son. We are co-heirs with His Son. We are co-heirs with Christ. See how much You see, and doesn't a father as we know it—a human father— Will do anything for his children. Same thing our Father in heaven does for his children. You see who we are, it says that we've been adopted. Now, he had impersonal love for the world that he gave his only begotten son, he loved all his creatures, but he has adopted us and he has given us his personal love.
Now he wants us to personally fall in love with him. That intimacy, that bond. It's when he says, "You can have all the knowledge," when he says, "You can have all these gifts," but nothing even comes close to love. He's expressing how important it is that we must fall in love with him. Does that make all the sense in the world? Now, we just read this wonderful prayer that Jesus talked about. Oh, Jesus prayed for us and his disciples. Now, I want you to know and understand that even in the Old Testament, okay, Jesus was in the Old T esta ment—the same way—not in us—but he appeared to those people because of his love again.
And I am going to bring, I am going to share with you six different stories, Stories of the Old Testament that in each story, Christ appeared to these people because of His love. Okay, I want you to see this. Now we're going to go to the first story. We're talking about Hagar. You remember the story of Hagar and Sarah, right? The second wife of Abraham. Let me read it. Let me read it as I wrote it here. Originally from Egypt, Hagar lived first as a slave. Then, when her mistress remained infertile, He's talking about Sarah and needed a surrogate at Abraham's second wife as abraham's second wife. And finally, as the mother of the firstborn son. Okay, so Sarah wanted a child so bad, and we're going to get into that.
But, she allowed Hagar to have sexual intercourse with Abraham, so they could have a baby. And that's which so she is the second wife, but is the mother of the firstborn of Abraham. Okay, does that make sense? And you can read all of this in Genesis sixteen by the way. If you read this story in Genesis sixteen, it clears right up. She succeeded where her mistress failed. And soon grow contemptuous, which means a hateful attitude. Okay, before long things escalated and Hagar fled into the wilderness. You guys all remember the story, I hope. Hagar was pregnant, hopeless and alone. And then Jesus met her there and told her to return home and promised her a hope- filled future from then on.
She referred to him as El Roy, which means the God who sees. Now, El Roy is in the Hebrew, okay? And it means the God who sees. Now Jesus came to her in the middle of her despair and offered her hope. He does the same with us today. The God, who saw that helpless Egyptian girl and all her pain sees us in. Our pain, the same exact way He meets us there, and by His grace promises better days will come. I want you to think about that: He Himself, Jesus Himself, went out and met this girl because she was alone hopeless. She went out in the wilderness because of all the animosity between.
The first wife and her okay. Does everybody understand that story? Yep. Oh, Jesus went to her, because of this and promised her amazing things. That's story number one, story of Hagar. Story number two, We're going to read about the three strangers who visited Abraham okay, in Genesis, eighteen, we're told the Lord Yahweh Yahweh in Hebrew. You know what that means, right? The Lord. Okay, some people in the Greek is Jehovah, Yahweh in Hebrew is the Lord appeared to Abraham. Abraham still childless was a hundred years old. I want you to think about this: his wife still barren; well, she was ninety-nine years old. Both were well past childbearing age. But one day three strangers approached.
They approached Abraham and Sarah, Jesus being one of them, And promised a year from that day that Abraham and Sarah would finally have a son. You guys remember the story. Sarah found this news so impossible that she even laughed, but a year later she became pregnant with a child of promise. And we all know who that was Isaac, right? Jesus Reminded Abraham and Sarah that they would indeed receive a child as promised, who ultimately pointed to himself, our Savior, in whom everyone of God's promises come true. What does that mean? That means through Abraham, from umbilical cord to umbilical cord, from father to father, The Father would come Christ, and that He would be a blessing to the entire world.
He made a promise to Abraham, and he continues with that promise to us as savior. Does that make sense? Through all his love, did it in the New Testament, went to the cross for us, And he continues in the Old Testament, showing them the same as he showed us as we know it today. Does that make sense? That's two. Number three.
This is when the angel appeared to Abraham when he was about to sacrifice his son. After decades of longing, God's promise finally came true. Sarah and Abraham had a child, or a child was born, only to be taken from them in this most heinous, unthinkable way as a sacrifice at the hands of Of his own father, you guys remember that story, right? Abraham was to sacrifice his own son, his only son. So it seemed. So it seemed. But believing God, this is Abraham believing God that he could raise his son from the dead. Abraham obeyed God's commands and set out with his servant and son to offer the most painful sacrifice imaginable.
I want you to put yourself in the shoes of Abraham and God telling you to go sacrifice your own child. Okay, but Abraham believing in God that would raise his son from the dead, okay, trusting in God, believing in God. Abraham obeyed God's commandment and set out with his servant and son to offer the most painful sacrifice imaginable. In route to that, not seeing the animal they needed. His boy asked, "Where is the sheep for the burnt offering?" As I share this with you, I want you to put yourself there. And and like be that fly on the wall, just watching this whole thing. Okay. And the little boy saying to the father, "Dad, where is this sheep for the offering for the burnt offering?" And then Abraham answered and said, "Don't worry, son."
God will provide. Moments before Abraham was to slay Isaac, the angel of the Lord, Jesus Christ, stopped him saying, "Now I am you. Now I know that you truly fear God. You have not withheld them from me even your son your only son." Then, looking up, Abraham saw a ram caught in a thicket. The sacrifice he offered in Isaac's place. Abraham named that place Yahweh Jireh. Now, in the Greek, we know it as Jehovah Jireh. Okay, I am sure all of you guys have heard that right? Which means "the Lord will provide." Okay.
Now, through the ram, God provided the sacrificial lamb that set Isaac free. I want you to think about this. Okay, through the lamb or the ram that God provided, God had provided that it appeared out of nowhere stuck in this branch in a thicket. Okay, now similar to us today through the Son our Lord Jesus Christ, God provided. That same sacrifice that purchased our freedom. See, Christ was even in the I bring you these stories, so you can see Christ in the Old Testament, just like we see Christ in our lives today. Now I share this with you as we go through this, so you can see the character of Christ, Which we talk about all the time and how he loved us and why it's so important.
That we fall in love with him. Remember, We can fall in love with someone or a person by knowing who they are. I want you to see Christ in these stories, so you can know who He is, That you may grab Him and hold Him and never let Him go because He is the most important thing. Everything else stays behind; the one thing that will continue to be with us. It's him and him only. Your family doesn't go with you. Your kids will not be with you. Known as your kids, please understand what I am saying, okay? There is no children in heaven, right? We're all brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ. We answer for ourselves, okay? That's story number three. Let's go to story number four.
We're talking this one is about when Jacob wrestled God. Now, You can read of this in Genesis thirty two six. If you want to read that story. Did I give you the passage to read that other story? You didn't give that paper to us. No, no. This I did not give to you. You can read what we just covered in Genesis twenty two verses one to nineteen Now. We're going to talk about Jacob here jacob. Father to twelve sons, from which the twelve tribes of Israel emerged. Okay, we're talking about Jacob here. He goes Abraham; he had Isaac, and then Isaac had Jacob. Remember, I said from umbilical cord to umbilical cord, from father to father to father Christ will come. Okay, So the twelve tribes emerged from J aco b ;. He was the father of the twelve sons.
Now Jacob deceived his brother out of the birthright and the blessing, then fled in fear of his life. He's talking about his brother Esau. If you remember the story, twenty years later returning with his wives and children, he learned his brother was coming toward him with four hundred armed men. Now Jacob, I want you to I don't know if you know the story. Please read this story. Okay, Jacob deceived his brother from from the birthright.
He put on what the brother's clothing. If I am saying that right, the skin, and he smelt. The father was blind; the father couldn't see, But the son put on the apparel of the other brother, so he can smell like so that so the brother would think so. The father would think that that was Esau, the brother. This is Jacob now. Okay, now of course after after the brother found out. He was absolutely angry, and then Jacob left. And then twenty years later, right as it says here, he was coming back. Now, up against Esau and his army, Jacob was desperate and outmuscled. He had four hundred men with him. God was his only hope talking about Jacob here). And God came through the next day when Jacob met his mother or brother face to face.
He received not retaliation, but forgiveness and blessing. Because of our sin, we also face certain death. Jesus is our only hope. Grace comes through surrender. But first, we must have to wrestle with our pride and self sufficiency. The moment we turn Christ turn to Christ.
And then, what do we receive eternal life? Let's talk about Moses. Jesus also appeared to Moses. Moses he was an Egyptian prince. You guys all know the story of Moses.
And turned shepherd boy or shepherd, and had settled in a quiet, peaceful life as husband. As a husband and a shepherd, so you remember who he was. He was the prince ;. He was in charge, not in charge. He wasn't the top top guy, but he was right up there with them. Okay, Now he killed somebody, and he had to take off because he would have to face the wrath. Of the king or the pharaoh, whatever they were. Okay, now he was out there and he left. He took off and he met this woman. He became a shepherd and he lived in peace. He was there in peace. He was loving life with his wife, but one day, he noticed a bush. You remember the story? Engulfed in flames that failed to consume it. Do you remember the story of the burning bush?
According to Exodus chapter three, verse two, You can read of that the angel of the Lord later self revealed as the great I am. Okay, this is Jesus again. And the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob appeared to him from that burning bush. As Moses stepped closer to investigate the strange sight, Jesus called out to him by name and revealed caught. Truths, and he said to him, "I am who I am." In other words, I am present and eternal—the self-existing One from whom everything else arises. He is the Maker and the Creator of all things. He's showing to Moses who he is. Okay, when God commissioned Moses to be his people's liberator.
He felt overwhelmed by the task laid before him, but in three simple words, Jesus assured him his success wasn't dependent on Moses's strength or his verbal skills. Because we all know that he was always afraid about that, his verbal skills. It's the great I AM was sending him would be with him and would stand beside him. See, he built he had the courage to do it because he knew.
That Jesus was with him. With that kind of power, Moses knew he couldn't fail. If we belong to Jesus, if we fall in love with Jesus, we have the same assurance of God's presence exactly the same. He is and will ever be the great I am, the all sufficient, the all eternal. Always faithful, and of course, omnipotent with all power. See who Christ is, and why it's important that we understand and fall in love with Him. Even in the Old Testament, He did it for them. Okay? I am going to share with you one more story. I want you to see this again through Moses: God freed His people.
From centuries of slavery, And led them with a pillar of fire by night and a cloud by day toward the promised land. You guys remember the story; you can read of that in Exodus chapter thirteen, verses twenty-one, right around there. Now, Do you remember the story when the pillar of fire led them by night and a cloud by day? That was Jesus in that fire; that was Jesus in the cloud. He was the one that was leading them. This redemption and inheritance carried dual meanings. Dual meanings, yes, God rescued them from physical bondage; of course He did, But He or but His desires for them. And for us today, the same thing are much farther reaching much more than we ever could think in Israel's exodus.
We catch a glimpse of God's redemptive plan in Jesus, the one who died to free us from our slavery to sin. Same thing; He led them. Jesus was in that fire and in that cloud; He also is in us, leading us, guiding us as He led them. This connection is made clear in First Corinthians chapter ten, by the way. Verses one through four point back to the ancient story, where God rescued His people and then guided them with a cloud by day, and a pillar by fire by night toward a land long promised. This passage reveals our unshakable foundation in Christ. All of them, He said, Ate of the same spiritual food and drank from the same spiritual rock that traveled with them.
Read the story if you don't know. And the rock, that rock was Christ. He was in the midst of them the entire time. Jesus provided for their every need, everything that they needed. Do you know that even their clothes never wore out? They were in the wilderness for forty years; their shoes never wore out, their clothes never wore out. Christ provided for them. Every single need as they made their way through the desert, and in doing taught them to rely completely on Him. That was the lesson. That's why Jesus had to teach them. He wants the same for us: our jobs or health may fail, but Jesus never does, never will. Those who trust in Him.
Find a sure rock upon which to stand. See that same rock that provided water for them also provides for us today. You see why it's important, brothers and sisters, that we fall in love with Jesus. He was there in the Old Testament, he is here in the New Testament, and he lives within you. Every one of his believers; those who trust and believe. In the the work of the Son, He went to the cross for us, and He said, "It is finished." And we have faith in Him. And when we are saved, these amazing benefits, these amazing assets that we've been covering. And today, The indwelling of God, the Father that was just a a little I wanted you to see.
Yeah, I wanted you to see the introduction to this. How important it is that we fall in love with Him. All right, we all there? Were those okay? Those examples of the Old Testament, so you can see where He was in those the whole time, right from the beginning. Now let's talk about the indwelling of God the Father. Most Christians know that when they trusted Christ as their Savior, that God the Holy Spirit came to indwell in them. Most Christians know this. Many Christians do not even realize that at the same time, God the Father and God the Son came to indwell in them in us. Each member of the Trinity has a specific purpose for indwelling the believer. I want you to understand this: each member of the Trinity.
Has a specific purpose for indwelling the believer. Let's go to John. I want you to see where it says that God is in us, the Father, God the Father. Now we're in the book of John; we just read that. Let's go to chapter fourteen and let's go to verse twenty-three. We're going to go through three of them that I listed here: fourteen twenty-three.
The book of John, the Gospel of John, chapter fourteen, verse twenty three and it reads: "Jesus answered and said, 'If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him. And we will come to him and make our abode with him.' Okay. We will come to him and make our abode with him," meaning the Father. God the Father, God the Son, and then of course later the Holy Spirit. Okay, everybody understand that? Right. Let's go to Ephesians four six I am sorry, Yeah, home yes, abode means to make home living at home, living at home, exactly to live at home in our bodies, meaning in our bodies, That's. Correct.
Let's go to Ephesians four. Ephesians chapter four, and we're going to go to verse six. Three, four, six. I want you to see this now, : one, God and Father of all, who is over all and through all. And what in all see, God the Father is in us, God the Son is in us, and God the Holy Spirit dwells within us. And of course, the last one is in Second John. Talk about Second John nine, yes first time, because t here is only one chapter second, john and verse nine.
says, " A nyon e who goes too far and does not abide in the teaching of Christ does not have God. The one who abides in the teaching, he has both the Father and the Son." I wanted you to see this for yourself because, like we just talked about, most people. Understand that we're indwelt by the Holy Spirit, but they didn't know that we have also the Father and the Son. Okay, God the Father indwells us for a purpose. There are no direct statements in Scripture to tell us exactly what this purpose encompasses. Therefore, We will need to examine the role of the Father in relation to the Son, the Holy Spirit, and of course, the believer us.
How can I want you to see this? How, can we human beings understand the infinite persons of the Godhead and their purpose for indwelling us? How can we understand that one method that God, the Holy Spirit, uses because that's who is revealing it to us. God, the Holy Spirit, reveals this truth to us is the use of language of accommodation. Now you are going to understand as we go through this what that means. The language of accommodation, okay? This language of accommodation gives insight to God's divine character. We talk about this all the time: His functions, we just saw, we just read that beautiful prayer, the decisions, the actions and policies by means of an analogy. The examples that He gives us, okay?
By using this method, God gives us the human mind and a frame of reference for understanding Him. Does that make sense? Okay, this language of accommodation is used for each member of the Trinity. The term " here it is ". Here's one of them :. The term " father ", for an example, is an understandable term for human beings ;. We know what that means when we hear the word " father." Okay, Father describes the relationship between the first person and the second person. Who is the first person? God the Father. Who is the second person? God the Son, who is Jesus Christ of the Trinity. Also defines the believer's family relationship with God. Likewise, The Son and The Holy Spirit describe The roles of The second and third Person of The Trinity. Okay so when.
When God uses the word "father," we automatically understand. He uses that analogy for us, so because we know what it is to have a father, and we know how a father loves his children, and we know how a father will do everything for his children. We know that a father will provide, will give shelter, will provide food. Will protect. That's why, father, those terms. Is so important that we understand okay, language of accommodation. And we can read of that. Let's go to Galatians four six and seven. I think we're there already right? No we're not there. Let's go to Galatians real quick. Galatians chapter four, and verses six and seven.
Galatians chapter four, verses six and seven says, "Because you are sons, God I am sorry did I go too fast? Yes. Galatians chapter four, verses six and seven. Galatians is right after Corinthians. And it reads, 'Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts.'" Crying, our Father. Now, we're going to see that God the Father is the author and planner of all things, and we can read of that in Ephesians chapter one, verses one to fourteen. And just because of time, we're not going to go there right now.
Now, the Bible always designates the father as the head of the household. See, that's why this is why we're talking about. I want you to understand, the father. The Bible always designates the father as the head of the household, and in the same manner, God, the Father is the ultimate in fatherhood and is supreme over all things. The title " F ather " demonstrates to us that the first person of the Trinity possesses absolute authority. And was the designer of the plan of humanity. He, it's his plan, God the Father. In eternity past, God the Father planned and designed all that exists. He planned the creation of the universe and the creation of man. He set the boundaries of the seas and set men over His creation. His plan called for mankind to be treated in grace.
And he planned a salvation solution for fallen men, all planned by the Father as the Author and Planner. The Father still remains ; I want you to see this co-equal with the Son and with the third person of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit. The Father is not greater in degree or in quality than the other members of the G od head ;. They're all. Equal God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit just different roles. Yes, different roles. You see what I'm you see where why it's so important that we understand this one title that clearly points out the use of language of accommodation is The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ in Second, Corinthians and Ephesians and Colossians, you can read of that.
This title indicates the relationship between Christ and the Father, the same relationship that we're supposed to have with the Father. You see that language of accommodation? Okay, now there's a term for that, and I think that the term is anthropomorphism. Yes, that's what that is. And also, the word "obedience" it's between two equals. Yes, when the father and the son, when the son obeyed the father, means they were two equals. Exactly. This relationship has existed from eternity past as a divine decree. The Son is not only the focal point of the Father's plan. ; He is the revelation of the Father.
We see in this relationship, the differences in function of the two members of the Godhead, the Father and the Son. In order to fulfill the plan of the Father, the Son became humanity and subordinated himself to the will of the Father. He gave up his will for the will of the F ather ; that was his will to do. The will of tHe father. This was done for our benefit so that Christ could go to tHe cross as payment for sin because he knew. We couldn't do it. Phrases such as ", his only begotten S on " must be understood in light of his function and mission on Earth. The mission was carried out by the unique person of the universe, the God Man, one hundred percent man, one hundred percent God Jesus Christ. Of course, we're talking about He alone was qualified; He alone.
The only one that was qualified to be judged for our sins of all mankind, which was accomplished at Calvary, Golgotha. Right? The Father's relationship to the Holy Spirit. Let's talk about that. Before Jesus departed this earth, he said that he would pray, pray to the Father and the Father would send the Holy Spirit. God in his role as Father functions as the ultimate authority over the Son and the Holy Spirit through. They are though they are co-equal and co- eternal. If therefore makes perfect sense, It therefore makes perfect sense that the Father would give the command for the Holy Spirit to be sent to permanently indwell. The believer. That was a divine decree.
When Jesus made this statement that the Holy Spirit would be sent, He called Him the Comforter. Actually, another Comforter, because Jesus Christ when He was on Earth, He was the Comforter. This is an interesting word in the Greek: paraklētos. Right? And literally means to call to one's side or call to one's aid. Like a lawyer. And we're going to see that here. Its common use in the Greek. Its common use in the Greek was in the courtroom to indicate a counsel for defense or an advocate, right? Christ is our advocate and the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit was therefore sent by God the Father to perform the same role as Christ for the believer. Even the word "another comforter" (allos) in the Greek, am I saying that right there? Yes.
Allos in the Greek means another of the same kind, signifying that the Son and the Spirit are one. Co-equal, co-external. All believers of all time are related to God the Father, the author of our salvation. All believers is the key word there; of all time, Old Testament, New Testament.
are related to God the Father, the author of our salvation. God is not the father of all mankind. I want you to see that. God becomes our father by our simple act of faith in Christ, faith alone and Christ alone. See, He created mankind and He loved mankind that He sent His only begotten Son as in John three sixteen says. But, it is only when that human being believes in the act or what the Son did on the cross that that human being becomes a son of the Father, co equal with Jesus Christ, right? With ears with Him. Okay, once again, this relationship shows the function of God the Father.
Towards his children, as believers we can call God our Father, our Daddy. And like loving human fathers, our heavenly Father provides what is best for His family. And I keep saying this because I want you to see the relation between your father. I pray that all of you had loving fathers, right? Or what a father's supposed to be like. Our blessings on earth and in the eternal state are because of the family relationship with our Father. You see how important it is. You see the love that Christ had for His children when He adopted you. No family relationship with the Father means no eternal life. You don't have a relationship with Him, you don't have eternal life with Him, okay? You must.
Trust, have faith, understand. Have love. So important. Why the Father indwells the believer? Let's find out why He indwells the believer now. Everything that we possess as believers is provided by the Father through the agency of the Son Jesus Christ as a guarantee to us of the Father's eternal provision. He provides all things provision. He does it all, the Father. Okay, God the Father indwells every believer. The Father is worth or the Father is with us constantly by to grant us blessings beyond compare and above our imagination. He constantly pours out divine blessings to His children and bestows gifts of grace without measure. I want you to think about your children if your father's in here.
We will do everything for our children. We will protect them. We will provide for them the same way that God the Father does. He constantly pours out divine blessings to His children and bestows gifts of grace without measure, right? Without measure, these blessings include such things as His plan, salvation, His promises, His Word. The doctrine, our family, friends, and all our physical needs. The Father is indwelling us in order to watch over us and to protect us as any good father would do. Language of accommodation uses the word " father " because we as human beings understand that so well because we live it every day.
And he wants us to have that same relationship with him, Falling in love with him as well as you have fallen in love with your earthly father. And he does so much more than we, as an earthly father, can do for a child. You see why I keep saying this? Why, it's important that we understand that we fall in love with him because he has fallen in love with you. The Father indwells the believer to guard him from the world system. See, we are in the world, but we're not of the world. This is what he's talking about : The Father indwells, the believer to guard him from the world system. And to glorify Jesus Christ in his life. What does that even mean? Okay, He guards us, the believer—we people in this room that believe in Christ—from the world system.
And I keep talking about this because I need you to see this. I need you to understand this. We've been indoctrinated with the world system since we were children. God has opened up our eyes; He's taken the scales off our eyes, and He says, "My children who I have adopted, I am going to show you a new way—the way My way—that when you participate, when you apply, when you take hold of." My system, you are going to be glorifying me because it's mine, and we can't boast and say, "Oh, look what I did. God, look what I am doing here. It's me that's doing it." No, God says, "I've done it for you. You are just using what I have given you. " Now when we do that well in this world, but we don't participate in the world system. I want you to think the world that we live in today, the craziness, the darkness.
And his children are in light through this whole thing, and he provides for us all the time. When he says, "I provide," to hold a jira right the Lord provides; He provides, but we have to see it, we have to understand it. He does all for his children. Does this all make sense? Is this all sinking in? Yes, okay. Really important : the father is with us to assure us of his love and care. As a loving father, He is concerned with our welfare and continually shows his love for us by guiding us by directing our paths through life. I want you to see this.
Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, He was one hundred percent man, one hundred percent God. Came to this earth, lowered Himself. Came to this earth. Did not have a sinful nature. Never lost fellowship with the Holy Spirit. Never never once Never sinned once, never lost fellowship. He was tapped in to the system of God, His way. He was tempted like we were, but never once did he sin and never once did he lose fellowship. I want you to see this. I want you to see how God provides a way. Now He tells us as His children, don't forget now.
We're co-heirs with Christ, and then He says to us, "Listen, My children that are human beings, okay, that do have a sinful nature that do sin." He says, " N ow I am going to provide a way that you as My Son Jesus Christ was always in fellowship with Me. I will provide a way," and I know that you are a sinner. And I know that you have a sinful nature, But I will provide a way that you also can be in fellowship with me at all times. And that's when we, like we just did today before we started first John one nine rebound. See now, we didn't think of that; He provided that for us. So what happens when we utilize what He has provided?
Our Lord gets glorified, He says, "Look at My children; they are applying My Word to their lives. They continue in fellowship." Christ was our example. Christ always told us, " We understand that Christ never had a sinful nature. ; never once was He out of fellowship. " God knew that we have a sinful nature and God knew that we are sinners ; that we would lose fellowship—never lose the indwelling. But lose fellowship, and you guys know my example: husband and wife get into an argument, right? They're no longer communicating. One goes one way, one goes the other. They're still married. They're still married just like Christ is in us. But soon as they make up, now they're communicating. When we confess and cite that sin, we're communicating again with the Holy Spirit. See how He provided the same way?
For us to be successful, He provided a tool that we can live this life, being fellowship with Him, being led and guided by the Holy Spirit. And and He says, "Listen when you do this; you are glorifying Me at the same time." How can we not fall in love with Him? Do you see why it's so important that we know who Christ is? And what he did for us, and our position, and who we are—we are his children. We call him Dad, our Father. You have an understanding, right? Everybody understands. We know that God the Father indwells in us to guide us from this world system that we live in. Okay.
Jesus also prayed that He would be glorified through the believer and that the believer would share His joy. It is the Father that provides all of this for the believer through what experiential sanctification. Now, people, I know some people don't know what even that means. What is experiential sanctification? Like you said back there. No one Christ living. Let me give you the exact meaning: the experiential sanctification, the ongoing lifelong process. I want you to hear me here: the ongoing life for us, long the lifelong process by which the Holy Spirit gradually, little here a little there transforms us. Okay, transforms us a believer.
To Christ's character, Christ's thoughts, His action, so we can become more like His Son. Christ that's what experiential sanctification is living the spiritual life. Yes, Living the spiritual life exactly. Does that make sense So when we talk about that, I want you to completely understand what that means. Jesus prayed that the believer would be sanctified set aside, Through the truth, which is of course His Word, Bible doctrine. And finally Jesus prayed that the believers would be one as the Father, as we read in John seventeen that prayer. The Father and Son are one. Unity of the believers is accomplished in only one way: truth. It is truth of the Word of God that brings us together as Christians.
False doctrines divide, but truth unites. Brothers and sisters, I want you to understand why it is so important that we fall in love with Him. I know I keep saying this, And I will continue to share this with you as we fell in love with our Fathers, knowing that He has provided all things that He cares so deeply for His children. So no. That our Lord has done the same thing with His children, okay? Now, I want to share something else with you. I know that not all people have that same experience with their father, but the Word says that God will never leave us, never forsake us. Okay? He's the only one; He is the only one.
Think about this: you may have a bad experience with your father, with your parents, But God says it so well and He explains that He will never leave us or forsake us. I shared with you the Old Testament where Christ walked with them because He loved us. I shared with you that beautiful prayer that Christ prayed to the Father so we can be united with Him.
I want you guys to fully be aware of who you are in Him and what He has done for us, His children. I want you guys to fall in love with Him, this deep intimacy with Him, trusting Him. You might sit here and say right now, "Oh man, I wish I knew more." I say to you right now: Come, trust Him.
Trust, calmly learn. Believe me, you will know more if you take the time. He will open up these amazing doors for you to see, but it is to your own will that you learn of them. He will never impose his will on them. Do we understand the indwelling of God the Father? All right. Okay. Let's end in prayer. Father, thank you so much, Lord. Thank you, Father, for everything that you have brought to us today. Father, I pray today, Father, That my brothers and sisters understand really what love that you have bestowed upon us. Father and how important it is that we fall in love with you, Lord.
I pray, Father, that my brothers and sisters know who exactly who you are, Lord. The reasoning for the indwelling of the Father, the Son, and of course the Holy Spirit, Lord. That we fully understand the whole purpose of all of that. And I am so grateful, Father, that you continue to reveal your Son Jesus to His Father. Thank you so much for everything that you continue to provide, Lord. You have provided this amazing way. We are in this world, but we're not of this world, Father. We just have to know what it is, God. And my brothers and sisters here are eager seeking you, Father, trying to understand what you have provided so they can tap into this system.
Father, take the scales from their eyes. Let them see, Lord. How wonderful, beautiful, amazing. Father, that you are to your children. Father. I am absolutely in love with you, Lord. I have falling in love with you more and more deeply every time. I learn of you, Father. I am so grateful for that, Lord. Thank you, Father. Let everything that You do, that we do, that we say be for Your glory, Father. I pray, Father, for travel mercies for my brothers and sisters today, Lord. And thank You, Father, for this opportunity. It's such a pleasure father Such an honor Lord that I can serve You father sharing Your Word with Your children in Jesus Christ's precious name I pray Thank you Lord.
Amen.
