WHO DO YOU SAY JESUS IS?
In Matthew 16, Jesus asked the most important question anyone will ever answer:
"Who do you say that I am?"
Peter answered correctly: "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."
But moments later, Peter stumbled when Jesus began speaking about the Cross. Like many people, Peter wanted the crown without the Cross. He wanted a conquering King but did not yet understand the suffering Savior.
The lesson is one we all need to hear:
Following Jesus is more than believing who He is—it means being willing to follow Him wherever He leads.
Jesus said, "If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Me." (Matthew 16:24)
Taking up our cross does not mean earning salvation. Salvation is a free gift received by faith alone in Christ alone. It means surrendering our own plans, priorities, and self-centered ambitions to pursue God's plan for our lives.
Peter's life also reminds us of something powerful: failure is never the end when God's grace is involved. Peter stumbled, failed, and even denied the Lord, yet God restored him and used him mightily.
The Cross comes before the crown.
The path of discipleship may involve sacrifice, rejection, and opposition, but it also leads to purpose, spiritual growth, and a life that truly matters.
The question remains:
Are we living for ourselves, or are we living for the One who gave Himself for us?
John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life."
