The #1 Problem Destroying Christian Relationships

Mar 20, 2026    Pastor Robert R. McLaughlin

This message explores the powerful biblical principle of impersonal, unconditional love (agape love) and why it is essential for believers to handle conflict, relationships, and injustice in a Christ-like way. The teaching explains that personal love and personal hatred often create emotional instability, jealousy, bitterness, and conflict, while impersonal love—built on spiritual growth and Bible doctrine—provides the stability needed to deal with people wisely and with integrity.

The message also addresses how believers should respond when they are wronged, slandered, cheated, or mistreated by others, especially other Christians. Rather than reacting with revenge, bitterness, or lawsuits, Scripture teaches that believers should place the situation into God’s hands—the “Supreme Court of Heaven”—and respond with virtue and spiritual maturity.

Another major theme is the difference between sensitivity and hypersensitivity. Hypersensitivity comes from arrogance and insecurity, causing believers to react emotionally to criticism or rejection. True sensitivity, however, flows from virtue love and allows a believer to respond with grace, humility, and compassion—even toward enemies.

Ultimately, the message emphasizes that spiritual growth and consistent intake of Bible doctrine are the only way to develop this kind of love. Without it, believers lose fellowship with God and become trapped in personal conflicts. With it, they can maintain peace, integrity, and Christ-like character in every relationship.
