God’s Timing vs. Your Timing — Why Waiting Changes Everything

Jan 30, 2026    Pastor Robert R. McLaughlin

— God’s Timing vs. Our Timing (Genesis 40–41)

This message centers on God’s perfect timing versus human timing, using the life of Joseph as a powerful illustration.

Joseph was repeatedly placed in difficult situations — the pit, slavery, false accusation, and prison — not because God had abandoned him, but because those situations were part of God’s training and preparation for future promotion.

The key doctrinal principles taught:

• Good timing = being synchronized with God’s will, plan, and purpose through doctrine.

• Bad timing = being out of sync because of rejection of Bible doctrine.

Joseph prospered in adversity because he applied doctrine — until he became impatient and tried to solve his problem by depending on man instead of waiting on God.

When Joseph asked the cupbearer to “remember him,” he stepped out of God’s timing and into human viewpoint. Because of that, Joseph remained in prison two more years, even though God could have delivered him in three days.

The lesson:

👉 Depending on people delays God’s plan.

👉 Waiting on the Lord accelerates God’s promotion.

God was not punishing Joseph — He was training him for leadership. The pit and prison were classrooms, not failures.

The message emphasizes that:

• God uses adversity to build wisdom, humility, and spiritual strength.

• Self-pity, self-vindication, and impatience reveal lack of trust in God’s timing.

• The only One who truly needs to know our problems is God.

• God promotes in His time — and His timing is always perfect.

Joseph’s eventual promotion to Prime Minister of Egypt only came after he learned to fully trust God and stop relying on human solutions.

Bottom Line:

God’s timing leads to blessing and promotion.

Our timing leads to delay, discipline, and wasted years.

Waiting on the Lord is not weakness — it is spiritual strength and maturity.
