When God’s Timing Feels Wrong — But Isn’t
This message teaches that timing is one of the greatest problems believers face, and that true success in life depends on synchronizing with God’s timing rather than forcing our own. Timing is not merely doing the right thing—it is doing the right thing at the right moment, in alignment with God’s predesigned plan.
McLaughlin explains that there are two moments in life where timing is always perfect: birth and death, both determined entirely by God. Every other decision in life falls into Phase Two—the believer’s post-salvation experience—where choices, priorities, and spiritual growth determine momentum or misery.
Bad timing often comes from lust-driven decisions (success, relationships, materialism, approval), arrogant ambition, impatience, or ignoring God’s Word. Even good desires become destructive when pursued outside God’s plan. In contrast, good timing flows from spiritual maturity, the filling of the Holy Spirit, consistent intake of doctrine, and use of God’s problem-solving devices.
The message emphasizes that what appears to be bad timing—adversity, loss, injustice, or demotion—may actually be God’s perfect timing. God often removes believers from circumstances that cannot fulfill His plan, even when those circumstances feel comfortable or successful. Hebrews 12 teaches that God shakes what can be shaken so that what is eternal will remain.
Joseph’s life (Genesis 37) is used as the primary illustration. Being thrown into a pit, sold into slavery, and imprisoned were not failures—but divinely timed steps toward his destiny. Joseph initially failed by panicking, pleading with people, and not resting in God’s promises. Yet God overruled injustice, human failure, and even wrong decisions to fulfill His plan.
The message concludes that God’s timing prepares believers for both adversity and prosperity, and that destiny is reached one step at a time, not through rushing or manipulation. Only God’s timing—linked with His Word and His plan—produces lasting happiness, spiritual growth, and eternal reward.
