The Filling of the Holy Spirit
Part 1
Eternity Past, Age of Gentiles, Age of Israel, Hypostatic Union, Church Age, Tribulation, Millennium, Eternal future
Before you begin this Bible study, If you have never believed in Jesus Christ as your Savior, John 3:16 tells us: “ For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him, shall not perish, but have eternal life.’ Simply have faith that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins and you will have eternal life and be saved. If you have believed in Jesus Christ as your Savior; then 1 John 1:9 tells us; “If you confess your sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Simply privately tell God the Father your sins to be filled with God the Holy Spirit and He will teach you Bible truth. “ And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit.” Ephesians 5:18
Gum ball machines are filled with pink, red, blue, orange, yellow and green pieces of bubble gum, peanut butter cups are filled with sugary peanut butter and some cakes are filled with little chocolate candies.
Look inside your Halloween bag and let’s see what it is filled with; mini chocolate bars, suckers with gum inside, popcorn balls and even little bags of chips or small cans of soda pop. I’ll bet you may also find
stickers, little plastic spider rings, and chewy caramels.
What would happen if you went out to collect candy on Halloween and got home and dumped your bag of goodies out on the kitchen table and there was nothing inside of it? You would feel like you wasted your time trick or treating and be very disappointed.
During the Church Age, which is the time period you live in today, God the Father has given every one of us something called the filling of God the Holy Spirit. God the Holy Spirit gives us His power to do things. How do you get filled with the Holy Spirit?
Do you gibber jabber, dance around in circles until you get dizzy or buy it at a grocery store? Nope, you don’t do anything except rebound the bad things that you think, do or say. You do this, by telling God the Father inside of you mind whatever you’ve done wrong. Wow, isn’t it amazing how simple God makes it!
When you are filled with God the Holy Spirit, you are getting help from Him. He gives us His power. It’s just like that Halloween bag, when it’s filled up with candy and treats.
When you don’t rebound, you are trying to do things without letting God help. It’s like collecting candy during Halloween and coming home to find the bag empty.
When the electricity goes out in the refrigerator, what happens to the food inside? It becomes smelly, rotting, moldy garbage that just gets thrown away. When you are not filled with the Holy Spirit, all of the good things you do are like garbage. This is called human good. God isn’t happy with human good.
When you are filled with the Holy Spirit, it’s like the refrigerator running
on electricity. All of the food tastes great. This is called Divine good. God is happy with Divine good.
Jesus who is the Son of God always did things while filled with God the Holy Spirit’s power when He lived during the Hypostatic Union. The story below is an example of this.
Mark 6:33-44
One day Jesus was out teaching a huge crowd of people, there were over 5000 men, plus women and children. They got really hungry, but there weren’t any stores around to buy food. Jesus performed a miracle by taking 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish and making it into enough food to fill up the hungry stomachs of the whole crowd of people. There were even 12 baskets of food left over. We will learn more next week.
