The Filling of the Holy Spirit
Part 2

Eternity Past, Age of Gentiles, Age of Israel, Hypostatic Union, Church Age, Tribulation, Millennium, Eternal future

Before you begin this Bible study, If you have never believed in Jesus Christ as your Savior, John 3:16 tells us: “ For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him, shall not perish, but have eternal life.’ Simply have faith that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins and you will have eternal life and be saved. If you have believed in Jesus Christ as your Savior; then 1 John 1:9 tells us; “If you confess your sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Simply privately tell God the Father your sins to be filled with God the Holy Spirit and He will teach you Bible truth. “ And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit.” Ephesians 5:18

Mark 6:33-44

One day during the time period known as the Hypostatic Union, Jesus was out teaching a huge crowd of people; there were over 5000 men, plus women and children. It started getting late and everyone was hungry. There weren’t any grocery stores nearby. What do you think Jesus did? Did He make a phone call and order pizza or do you think He sent His disciples to pick up cheeseburgers and fries for everyone?

He didn’t do any of this; instead, He was given 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish. Jesus performed a miracle and was able to turn the loves and fish into enough food to fill everyone up and there were even twelve baskets of food left over. In this case the people were filled with food for their hungry bodies and their souls were filled with Bible Doctrine.

What else fills up our bodies? How about Halloween candy? Halloween bags start out empty, but when they are filled up, they might have candy corn, Skittles, Nerds, Milky Way’s, Swedish fish, Sour Patch Kids, Air Heads or Twix bars. I’ll bet your mouth is watering just thinking about tasting your favorites.
What about our souls, they get hungry too and need to be fed. What do you think they need? How about peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, tacos or grill cheeses? Nope, this won’t fill up our souls; it only fills up our bodies.
Our souls get hungry in a different way than our bodies do. They need God’s love and grace and lots of Bible Doctrine so that they will be happy. Our souls are happiest when they are filled with God the Holy Spirit.
When we sin, our souls are miserable and are filled up with fear, hatred, anger and unhappiness. When we make mistakes, we just need to rebound and tell God the Father privately inside our minds whatever we have done wrong. When we do this, we are automatically filled with God the Holy Spirit.
The filling of the Holy Spirit is for our souls! God the Holy Spirit teaches us Bible Doctrine and He give us His power to do divine good. When we are filled with the Holy Spirit it’s like that refrigerator that is plugged in. Everything inside is fresh and delicious. The only way to please God is for us to let Him be our helper and this is what happens when we are filled with the Holy Spirit.
Human good is like that refrigerator that isn’t plugged in or working after a storm. When we open the door to the freezer, melting ice cream oozes all over. Inside of the refrigerator, mold is growing on the strawberries, the milk is spoiled, and the raw hamburger is brown and rotting. Everything smells like last year’s garbage.

When we are not filled with the Holy Spirit, we are telling God that we don’t need His help. It doesn’t please God when we try to do things our own way.
Jesus was always filled with God the Holy Spirit when He lived during the Hypostatic Union. He never lost the filling of the Holy Spirit because He never sinned.

All of us in the Church Age are not always filled with the Holy Spirit because we sin and make mistakes. The only way to be filled with the Holy Spirit is to rebound.
