Celebrating the Season of
God’s Indescribable Gift: Part 4
Eternity Past, Age of Gentiles, Age of Israel, Hypostatic Union, Church Age, Tribulation, Millennium, Eternal Future
Before you begin this Bible study, if you have never believed in Jesus Christ as your Savior, John
3:16 tells us: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him, shall not perish, but have eternal life. ”Simply have faith that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins and you will have eternal life and be saved. If you have believed in Jesus Christ as your Savior, then 1 John 1:9 tells us: “If you confess your sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Simply privately tell God the Father your sins to be filled with God the Holy Spirit and He will teach you Bible truth. “Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!” 2 Corinthians 9:15
We left off last week by learning that the magi, who were also known as the wise men, followed a very special star from the east that led them into Bethlehem.
When they got in town, King Herod found out they were looking for the little Child, who would be: “King of the Jews.”
He lied to them and told them that he wanted to worship the little Lord Jesus Christ too. The truth of the matter was the King Herod was a very evil ruler and he didn’t want to worship the future Messiah who would be the “King of Kings and Lord of Lords.” He wanted the wise men to tell him where He was so he could kill Him!
When magi found the house where little Lord Jesus lived, he was no
longer a new born baby. He could have been a few months, or even a year or so old. After the magi saw Him, they fell to the ground and worshipped our Savior, Jesus Christ.
“Then opening their treasures, they presented Him with gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.’ Matthew 2:11
Gold: meant that Jesus Christ, who is both God and a man, will be the king of the universe and be called “King of Kings and Lord of Lords” forever.
Frankincense: meant that the Lord Jesus Christ would sacrifice Himself to pay for our sins.
Myrrh: symbolized the suffering and death of our Savior on the cross.
While the wise men were sleeping, God warned them to get away from Bethlehem. They left a different way than they came so King Herod wouldn’t find them.
“When they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. “Get up,” he said, “take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.” Matthew 2:13
Matthew 2:14-18- Period of time- Hypostatic Union
Joseph didn’t waste time. He gathered up his wife Mary, and his Son, who would be our Savior, and left in the middle of the night for Egypt. It’s a good thing that they had the gold, frankincense, and myrrh, because now they would need it to help pay for their expenses.
Evil King Herod was so mad that the magi had left without telling him where the Child was! So, he killed all of little boys that were 2 years old or younger in Bethlehem. The little Lord Jesus and his family escaped just in the nick of time.
So, this Christmas, the most important gift of all is the indescribable gift!
God the Father sent His Son down to earth and gave Him a human body, so that the Lord Jesus Christ could die for your sins and mine. If you simply believe this, you will have the free gift of eternal life!
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” John 3:16
